OT: these sweatshirts teams are wearing are dumb! Gotham City and now seeing Bold City on Jax coaches. What exactly is bold about Jacksonville Fl? Place is a dump. You know your town is **** when bold is the best thing they could come up with.

Rant over now...
The smell, for one. That's all I can think of.

its hard to overcome another nfl team + the refs.

This.

I was just saying that I rarely complain much about the officiating. I usually accept the "it evens out" principle - that the calls/no-calls end up going both ways by the end of the game.

But this was the most one-sided, god-damned clusterf**k I've seen in a long time. The Pats were totally getting hosed through the first 3 quarters.

The @ Jets game is a historically tough one (The 2014 juggernaut beat Geno Smith 17-16 in December). I'll take that win.

The offense is frustrating in the sense if they ever get everything to click it'd be a machine. The run game with Mason AND Michel AND Gronk is definitely legit. That's a pretty solid run D that they just gashed.

Actually, the Jete run-D has been average to mediocre all season.

That said, the Pats ground game carved it up into even smaller pieces than I expected - especially considering that Sony had 40-50 yards negated by penalties. He might've been close to 200 yards on his own, otherwise.

I'll be honest. I think it was more on the defensive players than the coaching. Roberts was out of position on one play. Missed a tackle on another for a big gain.. The defense was leaving people open.. I don't know what the deal was, but they tightened things up in the 2nd half..

Yeah. This is worth a thread this week. The defense played well in this game, but should have dominated against an immobile backup QB. Those running plays by McCown were unconscionable. I get it when a kid runs around, but McCown? And why was Dawson inactive? This was the perfect game for the DC to demand he plays. They need to know what they have in Dawson. He will probably be on the field in the playoffs, so why not get him reps at game speed against a guy like McCown?

Sweatshirts are kinda cool though. I want one... but I don't care for those towns.

My thoughts on the game:

I feel no differently about us after this game. I don't think we will lose any more games because there is really no competition in today's NFL, outside of NO, imo. However, I do think we are capable of being more than mediocre and just as good as NO, if we hire a physical running back. Bringing in Reuben Foster, or even that gold-digger LaVeon Bell, to take some heat off Brady would be good. That way Brady can get back to being Brady. I have no faith in Michel or White's ability to carry this team anywhere-- sorry, but it is what it is.

Also, lately, Brady has been playing as if he's trying to prove something, instead of sticking to what works best for him and being more patient with his throws. He looked better today, which ain't saying much because it was just the Jets, but still... A good back will take the pressure off of him.

For the first, in like ever, I actually trust our defense. Yeah the secondary is still suspect, though Gilmore is proving to be worth the investment; but the pass rush this season has been incredible, I'm almost tempted to buy a Van Noy jersey because he's been on it all season. I ain't mad at the D at all.

4.2 yards per carry against?

Between the dumb refs, some dumb penalties by the Pats (particularly the unWise play going for the legs of the QB after he had released the ball) and the dumb commentators, this was a difficult game to watch in the first half.

Maybe. I really like Baker Mayfield, though. I was really excited when there were rumors linking him to NE... That was long before he was being considered for the #1 overall pick of course.

I'm pulling for them to grab Mcsorley. Kids a winner.

Would love that for sure. Big fan of McSorley and PSU. I live in PA so I see a lot of those games, and my sister goes to most home games. I think he'd be a good fit. No clue what his likely draft position is though...

With Ebner out, they may have wanted the speed of both Crossen and Melifonwu for ST. And JC Jackson has already become a solid relief DB. Although it surprised me that Obi got any snaps on defense to all today.

I'm guessing that Dawson gets some significant snaps against the 'Fins in wk-14, though.

Their 4.2 ypa-allowed is middle of the pack. Their 119.5 rushing-yds-allowed/game is bottom 1/3rd. The 9 (now 10) rushing TD's allowed was tied for 19th in the league. Going into this game, the Jets run-D was far from being "strong".

I live in VA he was part of a team that went to four state championships winning 3. I watched play my son's team when he was a SR, kid was unreal. Best HS QB I have watched play. And I just watched a Notre Dame commit Friday night. His anticipation was already at the college level. Put up 63 could of hung 100 on them if they wanted.

I coached against Ricky Slade when he was an 8th grader kid was absolutely sick then. And you have another back coming next year who is a great kid and a great athlete. His name is Devyn Ford #1 ranked back. Was surprised he picked Penn state knowing Ricky went their. But they told him they want to use him and Ricky as a 1-2 punch out of the backfield. I coached Ford for several years, my only concern about him in that conference is he is only 195. But he picked Penn over Bama, Ohio state among others so the coaches must think they can put the weight on him..

Deshaun Hamilton is from my town as well. Not a Penn State fan myself but watch most of their games because of the kids I mentioned.
