So if Notre dame, Clemson, and Michigan win out, and Georgia beats Alabama, Alabama has to be out right

If I were a gambling man, I'd put money on Michigan being the odd team out.

That’s what I fear and it would just be so unjust. I get the idea of getting the 4 best teams but how deserving the teams are should count.

That's why the playoff needs to be expanded to 12 teams. The playoff was a good idea. Having only four participate is brain dead.

What doesn’t make sense to me is that you’ve got 5 power conferences and only 4 spots. Yes it is true that some years, conferences are down like the pac 12, who won’t get a team in yet again. They should just scrap the big 12 and move some of the teams to the pac 12 and sec

I think that’s too many

I don't. It would be formatted like the NFL playoffs and would give teams that have played outstanding and are ranked high, but play weak schedules (like UCF), the chance to compete with the big boys.

I just do not see 12 championship caliber teams. I see 7 maximum right now

Those teams would be eliminated in the first round (similar to the Wild Card round in the NFL) if that’s the case. Or they would go on to be a pain in the balls against the higher seeded team that they play. Either way, 4 is definitely not enough.

I think the gap between 1 and 12 in the ncaa is a lot bigger than in the nfl. I think it’s also way easier to select who the 4 best teams are than it is the 12 best teams. Unless you’re going to have some kind of qualifying system...

Is a qualifying system something you’d want? If so what would it be. I assume you’d start with the 5 power 5 champs. Then what. Who else would get auto bids if anyone

I wouldn't see a problem with them simply taking the top 12 teams of the CFB playoff rankings/poll. The power 5 champs would all be in there.

The problem I see with that is I think its easier to sort out the top 4 than it would be the bottom 4 of a 12 team playoff. There would still be tons of controversy as there is with the NCAA tournament

There will be controversy no matter what. But at least the NCAA gets an expanded playoff field while still being able to put together bowl games for teams that were ranked outside of the top 12. Regardless, though, I'm sure you can agree that 4 is too few.

The only reason I would agree 4 is too few is because there are 5 conference champions. What do you do if one year you have 5 1 loss or 5 undefeated power 5 champs that are all good teams who are efficient on both sides of the ball. 6 teams I think is best with the current conference structure. My problem with going with more than that is that you potentially water down the field and make the regular season less meaningful. 6 teams. Power 5 conference champions get auto bids. 1 at large spot for which an Undefeated Notre dame would automatically get.

How do you make the regular season less meaningful with 12 teams in a playoff? If you were to go by the CFP poll as we speak, only two teams with two losses would be in it and there would be four undefeated teams.

Ohio State down 14-3 to Maryland currently. They are so overrated. Haskins still doesn’t have a neck. Just a helmet sitting on top of shoulder pads.

Ohio State’s safety issues and depth come back to bite them again there.

I wish the Gators could play Idaho every week. Franks actually looks like a quality QB in this game.
