Patriots interested in CBs before the trade deadline

IMO "interested party" may just be agent speak to drive up the price, after all every Pats trade turns to gold(??)...

From the perspective of salary cap alone, Conley with cap hits of 2.8M(2019) and 3.3M(2020) is more appealing the Jenkins 14.75M ( 2019 & 2020) or Peterson 11.8M (2019) & 13.1M (2020). Conley another 1st round pick would fit right with the so called "misses" of other teams.

Gruden jettisoning all of his talent may be folly, bringing a completely new team will take a couple of years to become competitive, either that or they could become another Cleveland Browns..

Wow, Jenkins salary is ridiculous. Is he really that good?

I really hope we don't get another CB. I like JC Jackson- he is a fighter, a scrappy CB, and I hope to see him get more playing time as the season goes on. In his very limited time he already has 2 PD's and 2 INT's.

Our problem is not at CB anyway, it's over the middle.

I like the potential of Pats young CBs as well . but Peterson would be a really good opportunity - gives some serious edge this season . insurance for top CB injury over the next two . and you can still pass him along the moment you feel fully confident about youngsters for more or less the same price you paid (like w Cooks).

btw - insiders are saying now that ARI really wants to keep him which is hardly a surprise bearing in mind the hit rate on shutdown corner with one pick..

I think any and all Pats interest in anything needs to be taken with a grain of salt. For one, I think Belichick is always interested in every position (except maybe QB), and if he thinks he can improve it for good value he will. Doesn't necessarily mean he sees a desperate need there, he's just always looking for good players.

Also, rumors about the Pats being interested in something drums up interest from the other teams, so accurate or not, these things tend to get floated out there regardless.

If I had my choice, I'd want DL or LB before CB. I think Jackson has some fight in him, and as he gets some experience his technique will be refined and we'll see a reduction in the penalties against him.

I think they plan to use three CB's and Rowe isn't cutting it, while Jackson can't be trusted.

Rowe has been with the team for 39 regular season games, been healthy for only 21 of those, and hasn't performed well when he's been active.

Jackson has played only 60 NFL snaps so far. His only real issue is that he's been physical in ways that have gotten him flagged. That's fixable.

Yes fixable, but will he be trusted this year when the games count the most?

Right now I think they'd prefer to upgrade.

His salary AVG/year is 9th amongst CBs (12,5). He had a great last season and he is still very good legitimate ball-hawk CB. I like his style of playing and would be awesome to have him as a Patriot.

I have no idea what the Pats would prefer.

Trust is built practice-to-practice and week-to-week. We'll have to wait and see how that goes with Jackson.

Jackson is still developing, but he's already shown qualities that Rowe never has. Right now, I'd say Jackson is probably the #4 CB behind Gilmore, JMac and JJ - all of whom can play LCB, RCB or slot on demand. Jackson - even in his limited snaps - has played all over the field as well.

Jackson:

TC INT Leader
PS INT Leader
T-1st Regular season INT Leader

Can definitely see why the coaching staff would want a playmaker across Gilmore if they can develop him.

PP and SG on the outside locking it down and JJ manning the slot would be great.

Watching the Bears game, Trubisky couldn't find an open receiver for most of the time. We need to trade for the 12th guy whose job it is to tackle the QB when he runs.

Seems like the title of this thread is somewhat premature. None of the reports strike me as being definitive.

CB has been a problem.
S has been a problem.
LB has been a problem.
DL has been a problem.

Other than that, the defense has been great.
