2018 Baseball Playoffs: ALCS, Red Sox vs Astros

Kinda shut down the pine tar BS

MLB doesn’t consider it a big deal. This is exactly how the NFL should have handled spygate - just let it go.

Report: MLB says Astros cheating allegations not major

Last year, the Red Sox were caught by the Yankees using a smart watch in the dugout to receive messages. Even though it's a rivalry, that story had a shelf life of maybe two days. MLB did their investigation, fined both teams an undisclosed amount and that was the end of the story.

I imagine this situation will be handled the same. If the Astros were doing something wrong, that will stop and the team will be fined. We may never know what the exact penalty is. Unless a team/manager/player is fixing the outcome of games, that's probably the best way to handle these cases.

The crazy thing with the NFL is that they didn't consider fake crowd noise, tampering with footballs, illegal electronic devices on the sideline, stealing signals, tampering with free agents, etc a big deal, either. Along with the bounty accusations against the Saints, the only time a rules violation is a serious matter is if the Patriots are involved. This makes even less sense when you consider Belichick's/Brady's/the 2001-current Patriots place in league history and that the NFL has made a point to besmirch their accomplishments.

Put another way, MLB isn't going to make a big deal about this and make sure everyone knows one of their best teams is cheating. I'm not sure why Goodell and the NFL think that's a good way to operate.

The reason why it is not a big deal is because:

a) most baseball owners are not petty, jealous babies and if they are keep it to themselves

b) Rob Manfred has a degree in labor relations from Cornell and graduated from Harvard Law School. He knows a slippery slope when he sees it unlike King ****head Goody who couldn't smell a problem if you stuck his head in a toilet.

Say it isn't so Joe
Yes, the Black Sox scandal. My favorite.

The great Ring Lardner: [serenading White Sox players after game 5 of the WS in 1919, to the tune of "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles"] I'm forever blowing ballgames, pretty ballgames in the air. I come from Chi, I hardly try, just go to bat and fade and die. Fortune's coming my way, that's why I hardly care. I'm forever blowing ballgames, and the gamblers treat us fair.

the big thing here will be that after this is shut down, suddenly the Astros stop hitting, then people are going to say hmmmmmmmmmm.

Not a big deal but it is interesting that the As, Indians and Sox have all filed similar complaints against Houston this year.

yeah, for an NFL commissioner, Goodell is rather uneducated. not sure how he got his job.

This is a huge deal and anyone saying otherwise is ill-informed.

Honestly they need to get an independent investigator assigned to this and frankly, I think they should shut down the World Series and delay the next MLB season for several years until they have perfected a system that can stop this sort of out of control cheating.

The game is tainted beyond repair, it's the only feasible solution. Join with me in demanding a full, multi-year, game-stopping investigation.

Short of that, I'd settle for seeing these asinine Bankofamericasox threads limited to the baseball forum where they belong.

Why not just heed the advice given and let it go?

If the moderators agree with you so be it.

The moderators have enough to do already without correcting your intentional nonsense. It's not like running to daddy for permission when mommy already told you that eating candy before dinner is a no-no. Not everyone here cares about baseball/Bankofamericasox -- especially during football season.

Because for big enough topics it doesn't hurt to bump the "JG thread... Um, Brady doesn't suck yet." thread to page 2.
