Julian Edelman

True. But game-fitness/game-speed is a whole other level beyond working out. The Pats may still want to "read the meter" on that before making him active.

With Gronk having a sore ankle, it makes sense to have Edelman active. He can play a limited number of snaps, as Gordon did this week. They could use him mostly as the 3rd down slot guy, for example.

Could possibly be Keionta Davis. We have 7(!!!) edge players on the roster right now counting Grissom, who has seen snaps on defense this year. Flowers is great, you can't really cut Clayborn or Wise, which leaves Grissom, Rivers, Davis, and Simon all vulnerable. There's no way you need that many players at that position.

Rowe has been out two weeks already with the same groin injury that kept him out for half of last season. The Pats have a lot of DBs, too, and Rowe certainly hasn't been among the best of them.

Hollister has also been out two weeks with an apparently serious chest injury.

I think it makes more sense to me to send someone to IR who may not contribute for awhile anyway, than to shed a healthy body.

Based on what we know from pre-season and Camp, Edelman seems to be pretty confident in the knee. What he himself said that he wasn't confident about was having "game legs", which I took to mean that he felt he wasn't up to game-speed yet. Four more weeks without even practicing with the team probably didn't help that.

I am certain he can afford a lazer pointer.

Julian may have missed time but that does not mean he was not working out.
Plus he already knows the offense.

And plus he played in the Preseason games...I remember Terry Glenn many moons ago coming back from a layoff or suspension and lighting up the Chargers.

That's my thinking too- Rowe to IR. Our CB roster is deep.

Despite being in good position, he basically gave up the biggest catch of the SB two years in a row and is constantly injured. Could be time to move on.

He seems to be a millimeter and a millisecond behind Logan Ryan.

Agreed, I'd say 99% of us on this board were never professional athletes, but a good amount played some sort of sport in high school. As most of us can attest, regardless of how much you practice, it's different than being in 'game shape'. So yes, he should still be effective, but I don't think we'll see full-Edelman impact just yet......but hey, if he can at least draw some coverage away from Gronk that will be enough for me.

I agree. The biggest effect I can see Edelman having the first week back is he will give TB12 more options.. more things for the defense to worry about. Spread the attention around a bit more and keep the defenses on their heels.

We shall see! Cannot wait for Thursday...

And he's the weak link there too I would rather Cyrus Jones back there instead of the pathetic Rowe.

Could sup?? fixed it for ya.

Keionta Davis could be a possibility too he's simply not good.

Funny to think that Edelman's last catch came in overtime of the Super Bowl two years ago.

This is why I don’t expect much out of him this week. He’ll get a lot of snaps but I’m not sure the timing with Brady is going to be there. Thankfully, it’s the colts and not chiefs.

Rowe is not bad against number 2 or 3 receivers. He just can’t handle the number 1s.
