Chung, Flowers & Rowe out Sunday

I don't like Harmon at SS, especially the way we play it. He's fine at FS.

Wouldn't be surprised to see something bizarre like Elandon Roberts playing there.

Agree, but sometimes ST players need to play on offense or defense in case of injuries. With Chung out and if Jmac is at corner for Rowe, there may be little choice if they want a 3 safety set.

Ebner does have some experience on defense. He played 18 snaps in 2016 and 45 in 2015. I could see him getting a handful of snaps this week.

JJ shadows Tate.
Gilmore shadows Golladay.

The twins and Harmon (and one of the LBs) run a pattern-matching zone on the rest (Marvin Jones, Riddick, Kerryon Johnson).

If the Pats need a sixth DB, Cyrus has more experience than Ebner. As a rookie (2016), CJ played 147 D-snaps. That included 69% against BAL in wk-14, 35% against the RAMS in wk-13, 47% agains HOU in wk-3, and 29% against CLE in wk-5. Pretty much all of his snaps were playing the right boundary or slot.

Whichever of Crossen and Jackson are active for the game would likely see more D-snaps than Ebner.

Flowers missed ...
-- his rookie season (2015)
-- zero games in 2016
-- 2 games in 2017 with a rib injury.

I would vote for Hollister as the new oft-injured whipping boy, but he doesn’t really fit the criteria since he hasn’t really proven himself to be “good” yet.

I really have to wonder at what point, quantitatively, a player gets a reputation for "oft-injured" or "always hurt" among fans.

Trey Flowers has missed two games out of the last 40 the Pats have played.
Hollister appeared on the injury report ONCE last season and played in that game anyway.

In his first two season with the Pats, Harmon played mostly in the box as the nickel safety. He was fine there - certainly better in coverage than any of the LBs currently on the roster.

I don’t know anything about Flowers’ injury woes because aside from his rookie year, I have not noticed them. Hollister has seemed to battle something or another on a fairly consistent basis throughout the summer and first game. He missed most or all of the preseason and was finally taken off of the injury report on 9/14, but promptly placed back on it again, this week.

Hollister played in the first two preseason games. He caught 2 of 2 against the Skins, and 1 of 1 against the Texans. According to my notes, he apparently tweaked something (probably the hammy) either in the HOU game or early in the following practice week. After that, he was participating in warmups, some positional drills, but spending "team time" on the lower field. So, he "partly" missed only the last two weeks of Camp.

So far during the regular season, Hollister was "limited" for all three week-1 practices (hammy) and didn't play against the Texans. Last week, he was "limited" (hammy) for the first two sessions, but off the report on Friday. He caught 3 of 3 against JAX.

This week, he didn't appear on the report until Friday, after apparently suffering a "chest injury" from a "hard landing" in Thursday's practice.

In contrast, Rowe missed 7 games in 2016 with various lower leg issues. He then missed 8 games last season with a groin issue (apparently re-injured now). To me, THAT is "oft-injured". I don't apply it to players who occasionally miss a game due to something that's not likely to be chronic (ribs, chest).

Yeah I just don't buy it

Rowe appeared on the injury report for 11 consecutive games last season (wk-3 thru wk-14) with a "groin injury". He missed 8 of those games - half the season.

Why would the team fake this injury? From what I hear, BB doesn't need an injury to bench a player.
Optics. Not dressing a vet without an injury excuse sends the "doghouse" message to the rest of the team.

The message is between him and BB.

I could be wrong. Just a hunch
