I see. Apparently both your short and medium term memories are shot. Maybe try ginkgo biloba.
Whoops let me rephrase. Should have been set up annually back then. My joke was supposed to indicate you were late to the party not that I don't continue to love and appreciate Fears.

Apologies. Skip the ginkgo (I'll take it.). Have a beer instead, on me.

A ginkgo biloba beer....hmm you might be on to something. Probably make millions on those Kraft beer drinking hippies.

Can't vouch for your study -- although it's believable -- but I tallied up Patriots all 2nd round picks since 2000 (not including this year) and rated all 23, counting as successful only consistent starters or contributors. There were by my count 9: Garopollo, Jamie Collins, Vereen, Gronkowski, Volmer, Chung, E. Wilson, Branch, and Light. That's 9/23 or 39.1%, and includes 1 likely GOAT (Gronk) and a likely franchise QB (Garopollo).

Pretty good, I'd guess, especially since the average round position was probably below average.

Great, informative post. The part highlighted is the key point. Because the Patriots overall record is the best of any team since 2001, so not only is their average round position "probably below average", their overall draft position must be the lowest of any teams even before the Goodell thefts, right? And something similar must hold for the second round also, right? I don't mean to beat this horse to death, but the Patriots drafting over the years has to be evaluated in context of them having the WORST average draft position every year due to their consistent winning, no? It seems to me that their draft record has been really good given that disadvantage.

Dante certainly thinks that there's another OLman coming to the 53.

I hope he's right...and I don't mean Cole Croston or especially Thanksdad Ferentz.

I'm glad "Thanksdad" is back but I will miss the original Thanksdad Izzo. It had a better ring to it.

All I care is he plays to his potential could care less what number he wears.

i thought Pats might bring Tobin back . Dante did great job with OL backups and plenty of it is wasted again. They could use Tobin . now they might consider bringing Croston back to 53 or they can lose all 3 backup Ts that were among highest ranked in preseason.
Don't like how they played this..

Don't like losing Tobin.

Any word on why T. Brown missed practice? Tackle depth chart getting very thin.

The mock drafts and draft experts are affected by the Independent Scouting services that many teams in the NFL use. The problem is that they are about as accurate beyond the first round as a monkey throwing his out feces at the stock pages.

The only "Draftnik" that was worth his weight was Joel Buschbaum. And even his scouting missed things.

You have numerous teams in the league now that don't use the Scouting Services and, therefore, have their own way of evaluating players. Particularly when it comes to the intangibles. Which they get from their own interviews with players. And I guarantee that plays a bigger role in how they view players than it does with the Scouting Services..
There are plenty of "amateurs" that can do this, that aren't affected by mocks/services. I've never been influenced or paid for services. There's so much info out there that in this day & age it's crazy to think only a few can actually do this. It's a small % but I'd trust more than a few "amateurs" including myself.

Any word on us signing Howard?

I like Antone Exum too; I hope his knee issues are a thing of the past. I would've preferred him at backup Safety to JMac & his cap hit.

And I'd still like to see Bill give the agents of David Quessenberry & Adam Bisnowaty a call.

The problem is that the big names have access to information that small guys like you don't have that adds context to a lot of things that are happening beyond the tape.

But at the same time this also means that sometimes teams feed misinformation to the big names in an attempt to mislead their competitors. Which is something that the "amateurs" don't have to deal with as their analysis is based of tape (and measurables) only.

No matter from where you look at it.. the whole thing remains a big puzzle.
