With Jules officially out the first four weeks and Amendola in Miami, it looks like it's Jordan Matthews time. The suspension does open up a spot for Berrios and/or McCarron though

I know we are heading slowly into the inexplicable camp binkie season but I never understood the obsession some people had with McCarron. Unless he takes an unprecedented turn for the better he will be nothing more than camp fodder.

Berrios looks like someone who will need a redshirt year to compete. But if we manage to hang on to him somehow via the PS (or on the roster due to injuries) he will have a better shot at making next years roster than "beloved" guys like Austin Carr.

Honestly, I think this team has enough firepower on offense to survive the first four games without a 32 year old guy coming off an ACL. Until proven otherwise I would not expect amazing things from him until the BYE week anyway.

I think Matthews will be the real key but I also think they will use Patterson in some simple yet effective ways in the slot too... slip screens and end arounds.

McCarron has some fantastic measurables and spent all 2017 on the practice squad, so he should have a solid grasp on the playbook. Obviously, it takes more than athleticism to be a wide receiver, but the potential’s there

I am aware of his measurables. I am also aware they mean not much to the point where he is the least likely out of all WRs to make it.

People should stop talking about measurables a year (or even more) after a player has been drafted. This is the most generic way to compare players which makes it the least useful to speculate about their chances to make a roster. It has it's place during the draft process due to the lack of other ways to project. Once players are on a roster the coaches know usually pretty soon what they got in their hands.

So your argument is that because Julian Edelman changed position and develops into a receiver that the actual quality playing of football at the college level any unproductive college WR particularly ones that are just 5’9” is irrelevant?

Being unproductive at a position really isn’t being further along than not having played it.
Comparing this guy to Edelman is ridiculous. Might as well compare Etling to Brady.

The odds are better that you won't even remember his name in 2-3 years than him making the team. Obviously there is nothing wrong about hoping he surprises everyone but please lets stay realistic. Remember the much ado about nothing with Austin Carr last year ?

People rip Dorsett for his relative lack of numbers and then in July and August absurdly latch on to players who are nowhere close to even that level.

So the fact that he couldn’t get on the field has no impact on his ability?
He didn’t play for 3 years then had a weak senior year. Slice or however you want but this is a guy who had a poor college career and is 5’9” and people want to make him out as some kind of star in the making because once we had a guy who was 5’9 who was good.

Let’s do it another way. What about this guy gives you any reason to believe he can be an NFL player much less a guy who can replace Edelman?

I'm not counting on Berrios or McCarron. Between Matthews, Hogan and White they'll have it covered for 4 games. Especially having Gronk to draw coverage away.

I think the spot it opens up is Dorsett who has been showing signs of getting it. If Mitchell can't start the season Britt will.
