While I'm pretty sure the Gonk rumor is "fake news", I believe Rob was sincere when he said he seriously thought about retirement this offseason. That is a huge red flag because when players start to think about retirement, most already have one foot out the door.

The real story will be that the Pats will surely keep him this season and even give him the kind of one-year incentives they gave him last year. But I doubt very much they will keep him beyond 2019 when his contract expires, and trading him this offseason with a year still on his contract would maximize his value to the team. Better a year too early than a year too late.

BTW- this is STILL football we are talking about. And there is only ONE player on the roster whose loss would end our superbowl chances, and that is Tom Brady. Every other individual on our roster (and every other non-QB in the league for that matter) is expendable.

The only way that would happen or make any sense would be if it was shown beyond a doubt that Edelman had obtained whatever got him suspended form Guererro. So far, there is not a shred of evidence that that is the case.

BTW, Edelman issued this statement less than ten minutes ago:
"I am very sorry - I don't know what happened. I've taken many, many tests obviously over the course of my career, and nothing like this has ever happened. I apologize to the Kraft family, my coaches, teammates and fans. As this matter is being appealed, I can't say anymore but no matter what, I will be ready to play and pursue another championship with our team and for Patriots fans around the world."

They would need players to help them win this season, not upcoming picks. If we get for example a kittle plus picks fine but Gronk for straight picks would upset me. Quantity wise we’re sitting good for 2019 draft picks.

This is true. Normally I’d be ok with it. It worked with guys like Seymour, chandler jones. Only reason I feel different about this one is our qb is 41. The window is now. And we’re already in a good spot if need be to start a 2019 rebuild with multiple 2nd rounders.
