Malcolm Mitchell in 2018?

I just diddnt get the biggest part of it. MM is a nice player and when you have Hogan, Matthews, Britt you dont really need him to be a huge stud. It would be nice if he became Dion Branch 2.0 but....

Besides the obvious guys like TB and Gronk bigger hits or misses would be guys like JE or DH. Huge impact players that are very difficult to replace. Those guys can be huge hits or gigantic misses. MM? We can live without him.
Yeah what I was trying to get across is he's such a high ceiling, low floor guy. Obviously Jules and HT mean more to the team, but they're more know commodities than Mitchell. Neither one stands a chance of missing the roster, if that makes any sense

Hogan can be a decent starter, but Mitchell has a much higher ceiling IMO. Mitchell's considerably better against man coverage and can do a little bit of everything
No, Chris Hogan can do a little bit of everything. MM is not as versatile

Sure they could If they are injured and need time they would be on the pup.

You could be right but I just don't trust him. Those injuries are too hard to shake off. Would't shock me if his career is coming to an end.

MM will start on the PUP.

Eh given the competition and the general amount of bodies at the position, I'm not quite so sure he gets there. He's either ready to play or he isn't and, if he isn't, I don't see the team having him on the active roster at the start of the season.

Well the pup would give them a roster exemption. You think they will just IR him? If he dosent practice they have the pup which does not count against a roster spot and its 6 weeks to evaluate.

No. I think they cut him.

Interesting

That's if he can't get back on the field. I should clarify that. But that's given him over a year to get his knee in order and if he can't get back on the field, there's a pretty good chance the knee is just shot.

Yeah, I was just thinking that. If he could not get it healthy over the last 9 months there is a problem. And he had 7 months or whatever to get it healthy after SB51.

I think PUP is the absolute maximum for him at this point. This is the deepesr WR roster the Pats had in I don't know how many years. In 2013 the WR core was Edelman, Dola, Dobson and Thompkins. Guys like Matthews and Britt, who are battling for a spot right now would've been the 2nd-3rd option in other years.

Then you have the speedsters/special teamers in Dorsett, patterson and Slater.
So let's assume there will be 5 WR spots like last year.

Edelman
Hogan
Britt/Matthews (one got a 2 year deal, looking reportedly good today and the other had multiple 1000 yds season)
Patterson PR/KR/Speedster
Slater

So even with possibly cutting one of Matthews or Britt there is no room on him on the 53 roster (and I strongly think they'll keep both and have 6 WR this year). If he showed up in TC and proved to be healthy I'd have him as a heavy favourite to be on the 53 roster but even Edelman got healthy before him.

To sum it up: with this competition and the duration of his absence I see simply no place for him on the 53 roster right now.

Is that a possibility? Everything I've heard says Jules and HT will easily be ready for the regular season. That is not the case with Mitchell

No, its not a possibility - unless something happens between now and the start of the season. I was using them as examples how "anyone" can not make the active roster - if they are injured.

Wasn't his Med history a red flag during the draft?

I really liked him here, but missing too much more time, i don't think he will develop quite enough...

Still, I am kinda hyped about J Mathews. I think he'll become our number #3 Receiver

His knee issue is so weird. He looked like he might be ready for 2017 Week One, but injures it in the final preseason game. He starts practicing just before the regular season ends, and it seemed like he'd be back for the playoffs. And then he doesn't come back. Then he practices at the first OTA session, but then he's never seen again.

I get that it looks like his knee is shot, but why does he keep getting on the field if his body isn't ready for it. Obviously, the training staff knows more than me about this, it's just a weird situation.

Ah I got you. I suppose that - barring something completely unforeseen - you know what you're getting from Jules and Hightower to an extent. Mitchell you have no idea what you're getting

I don't know where you come up with that notion (which is fine for you, although he's coming off a lost season) but, as of now, the line almost certainly forms behind

Edelman
Hogan
Matthews
Matthews is more of a pure slot guy, whereas Mitchell's more a perimeter receiver. I don't really see one affecting the other, and Matthews isn't exactly a sure bet either.

Hogan's the safer bet, but Mitchell has a much higher ceiling. Hogan struggles against man coverage and isn't the best at winning contested passes. Mitchell showed the ability to do both, while still stretching the field. Granted, he's not as good a deep threat as Hogan, but he does just about everything else better when he's healthy

Ive always thought that Britt is here to replace Mitchell if he cant go. Britt is 1 year removed from a 1000 yard season with the LAR.

After Branch and Givens, the only other stud WRs that comes to mind is Julian Andelman.

Gallon
Lucien
Dobson
Boyce
Ebert
Price
Tate
Slater
Chad Jackson - remember him? He couldnt spell CAT with the C and T up on the board.
Sam
Bethel Johnson
