EDIT: Draft & After long distance thoughts..

I just did a quick round of OL watch.

As said before: wouldn't mind a 1st rounder on IOL that much. Apart from Wynn win I like Ragnow option as well. Dominant on interior and I think he might be able to handle to step up in case of OT crisis for a while.

I can't see the Daniels in the 1st round hype at all. So i can only hope no him or tackle..

@CB

With Jaire and Ward probably gone Id be very happy with Hughes. quite a drop after that..

or later Nelson, Reed, Dawson etc. possibly Tony Brown for star

Good call on Wynn. Still think he can play tackle though. :)

Of course. That was my point in previous writings. And even trading for Trent Brown doesn't change that.

Caserio said very simply - our job is to bring in good football players .. and let the positions sort themselves out. To most this sounds like smoke but its actually their belief. Of course they have their perfect and less perfect case scenarios but they are not hangin' on them. And that might be one of the key differences in their philosphy to the rest of the league. They continue working, scouting and bringing players, coaching them and finally decide on jobs..

Thanks mains!

BGC, reamer, manx, others?

Sorry LD but I missed this. On day 3 I'd go with Quenton Meeks and Micah Kiser off the top of my head but I'm useless at predicting ideal Pats of late so take with a pinch of salt.

ST - Ther is surprisingly little talk on the 3 key ST positions . which is shameful. Its true Pats notoriously re-signed all their ST only guys - all 3 specialist ST positions are in the air for the future, kicker, punter and long snapper entering their contract years without extension. No reason to panic of course but still a bit strange situation..

Yeah, I don't get this either.

That said, it's been a weird offseason, so it doesn't really surprise me, either. IIRC the last time, they had to franchise Gostkowski and they got a deal done on the deadline for doing so. So who knows.

Interesting to see this pre-draft rant wasn't too far off..;)

They did draft starting RB (higher than i expected), brought Wynn instead of one of pure tackles and added (true slot) CB . while ignoring LB/edge..
___

Going into Day 3 Id guess we are left with QB of choice (would be shocked if they don't bring at least one this offseason after they went all in with Josh), depth/possible future at star/LB .. possibly safety, TE, punter/kicker .. + opportunity at edge, outside CB

Drafting slot WR/PR would be nice since it is a good class and likely future opening - but might be hard to carry a rookie on 53 this year with so many solid vets and tough to lose one again at 53 cut time so it might make..

Above all looking forward to a great after party since many UDFA projected prospects seem to have similar value to what is left (and in some positions all the way to this yrs 2nd round)

Ill continue some of my after Draft thoughts here. Hope some are interested and will join..

Before start . i was just thinking today that it was unlikely the Pats would take my boy Evans in 1st round (though Im sure they liked him) bc there is simply not starting position opened where his best fit would be. Two ILB/OLB starters are signed through 2019 - Hightower and KVN - and whatever people think of them they are locks at least for 2018. Evans is ok but not great in coverage and WILL would not be his best fit/forte. Also Pats play 2LB more often.

To give #23 for insurance/backup/situational player in 2018 would be out of character in BB roster building. Its a 2 year league contract wise changing more and more into 1y league for most part of the roster and BB is again the frontrunner. It was (at least) a year too early for that match - and next year new line of solid LB options is coming out (possibly 3 from Alabama alone who were ahead of Evans on depth chart before season/injuries).

Good calls; it's too bad that Little Billy decided to ignore Luke Falk at 178 and to over-draft Braxton Barrios by at least a full round, instead of simply taking Ade Aruna at 210 and Trey Quinn, the superior Slot WR talent anyway, at 250 where Larry Izzo Jr (yet another Blocking TE - I thought these guys were hard to find, because we now have Three of them in the building, yet only One who rates any respect as a Pass-Catcher) was taken.

Just saw this now. You should'a @ me.

I would have said Meeks, Wynn, Stewart, Dawson, Nwosu, Reid, Burks, Ragnow, Hernandez, Corbett, A Miller maybe a few others that I cant think of atm?

Avery, D O'D,

I'm guessing that the Pats took Barrios for his potential as a punt returner.

So am I. I still would've taken Ade Aruna at 210 and waited to draft Barrios (or better still, Marcel Ateman or Trey Quinn) at 219.

He might have, if any of them had experience/success returning punts.

Maybe Dan Connolly is available?
Doesn't excuse the fact that Barrio was drafted a full round too soon.

"...the Patriots were down on the perceived second tier of quarterbacks -- Kyle Lauletta, Mason Rudolph, Mike White, Luke Falk -- relative to the rest of the league; and they felt like Etling (a non-combine invitee) was a similarly-talented player who could be had later..."

Etling a similarly-talented player to Rudolph, Lauletta, White & Falk? That ass-essment is so fecking wrong it's laughable, if it weren't so sad at the same time.

Little Billy, the Emperor Without Clothes, has accomplished the near-impossible this off-season: thanks to the drafting of J'Wrong Bentley (the WORST value pick of the ENTIRE FECKIN DRAFT), we have actually become LESS ATHLETIC at LB. Unfeckinbelievable.
