They've been "rebuilding" since their Super Bowl loss in 2014. What is happening in Seattle is exactly what happened with Carroll in New England. Their drafts keep getting worse and that Penny pick could be the nail in the coffin. I agree Wilson will keep them in games but their team is falling apart.
I blame Greir more than Carroll for the 97-99 decline.

Are the NEP the only team who has injuries?? Every NFL team has injuries in the "season of attrition"...
The Pats lose a good amount of key players year after year. Reason being that they play deep into the postseason every year since 2011 and are essentially every team’s Super Bowl.

Obviously, the number of injuries matters less than who is injured based on lost production.

There was a recent season in which the Rams led the league in "players on IR" by a good margin. However, 10 of those players were scrub DBs who they'd picked up off various scrap heaps in an attempt to fill in for two of their four top DBs.

During the Pats great run in 03-04 they had a record amount of injuries, mostly in the defensive backfield IIRC.

I agree as I don't know how much say Carroll had, if any. I had stated this in another thread that had their draft picks had been better, the Pats would've done well enough for Carroll to keep his job. The Pats weren't far off from serious contention but there was no way they would've been able to get passed the Broncos in '98 or even the Jets. They were on a roll in '99 but the wheels feel off when their defense fell apart/starting to show it's age and couldn't run the football (something that was essential in the 90's to be competitive). However, the Jaguars were the best team in the AFC until the Titans came out of nowhere that season. Funny how not many people took the Titans seriously (including myself) after going 2-0 in the regular season and then kicking the crap out them in the playoffs.

'03 they were fine. It was '04 when they had a ton of injuries.

Pom Pom had some input but Notorious BIG (Bobby Idiot Grier) set the draft board and signed the FAs. Andy Waznchuk ran the cap. All 3 sucked.

Perhaps. We all know Tom Brady fights threw injuries that would sideline most other players.
No question and thats my point. You could argue he played several games in poor health and all BB cared about was if he could play and help the team win.

Do not disagree, and have long advocated for a longitudinal study on the impact of extended play into the tournament and the impact of injuries on the following season.. while many NFL Players are home for New Years the Pats don't finish up until later every year, the side effect of being a winner.... and a huge reason why the season should not be expanded to 18 games.

OTOH most other teams have significant injuries during the season, often referred to the "season of attrition".. As BB often tells us, Injuries are part of the game"...

Avril should've been one of the Emperor's picks, either at 62 or 78, during the 2008 draft. He would've fit in here absolutely perfectly during the days of the 3-4 defense...as would have Conor Barwin the following year.

I can't find anything either.

It does make sense that the 'Boys would be looking to acquire a veteran TE in trade. Their current TE depth chart:

- Geoff Swaim, 7th-round 2015
... 9 rec/11 tgts, 94 yds in three seasons
... total career snaps: 398 offense, 261 ST

- Blake Jarwin, UDFA 2017
... active one game, no stats

- Rico Gathers, 6th-round 2016
... didn't play football in HS or college
... no games active, spent 2017 on IR

- Dalton Schultz, rookie, 4th-round 2018

It's possible that one of the local Dallas beat writers drew up a list of veterans TEs that the team might/should try to trade for, and that Allen's name was included on the list.

It seems doubtful to me that the Pats would trade Allen before getting a thorough look at how Niklas, Hollister, Izzo and Wimann actually perform in the offense. So, maybe mid-late Camp ... if it happens.
They got the kid from SD State, too. He was a later round draft favorite for some of our posters, and the Cboys picked him up as an UDFA.
