With Draft and first UDFA wave over . and teams overloading . the second part of free agency starts. Still some interesting FAs left from the start of free agency . and some new being released.

Here we can recalibrate the market / targets and follow new additions to FA market.
__

From the NE FA visits LB Casillas, CB Breaux and TE Cleveleand are still out there and while TE slots are probably filled and Breaux w possible negative medical - Casillas should still be a strong option.
__

CLE cuts among interesting to watch . Kai Nacua from last years strong S class could be a name to watch. RB turned safety had great Pro Day and Pats worked him out; some attitude issues and certain lack of strength but could kick the tires (as they haven't made a single S move yet)

being claimed by binikies D.Jones and Travis last yr i don't mind if they don't..

As Captain Renault said, "Round up the usual suspects!"

Not that these guys haven't been mentioned numerous times. Just making a list.

LB -

Casillas
Bowman
Cushing

With the rookies and Rivers having yet to take a regular-season NFL snap (and Langi having only 6?), veteran experience seems important, at least through Camp.

Safety
Nacua
Reid
Boston
Vacarro

Veteran experience perhaps isn't as important here as "getting younger". Still, Reid/Vacarro/Boston are all ~ 4 years younger than Chung and D-Mac, so ...

I'd like to submit two more names:

Chris McCain EDGE and LB Gerald Hodges

McCain is a former Dolphin who flourished as sub rusher with the Chargers. BB worked out Hodges last year but ended up signing with Bills, who cut him just before season started. He caught on with the Saints.

At this stage in FA...these two would be great adds.

As Captain Renault said, "Round up the usual suspects!"

Given the importance of the case we need to round up twice the usual number...

Since we didn't add a safety in the draft, Vacarro or Reid would really add something to this roster, while also pretty much guaranteeing that we would be saying goodbye to Jordan Richards!!!
We did not address safety in the draft but it does not change the fact we still need some complement badly. Vaccaro and Reid are still young and if we see them as our future starters it is high time to sign one of them and adjust to the system. I cannot imagine the start of the season only with our "trio" and Richards as an alternative. Remember that it is possibility Harmon is going to be suspended and treating "nickel base formation" as our primal we have no one to replace him.

I don’t know if we are adding a safety. I think we are moving away from a lot of big nickel toward more 3 corner nickel and I severely hope we scrapped the 4 safety defense.
With that we need 3 plus a youngster who can play st and we have youngsters to compete for that role. We could add more like that.

Hopefully BB is waiting to sign one of them after the date to sign free agents without it affecting the comp formula starts.

How much should we play Reid to play social teams and have almost no reps in the regular defense, unless there is an injury to our top 3 safeties?

"Social teams"? Is that like the cheerleaders? Exactly how "social" are they, and why would Reid get to "play" and no one else?

;)

Two important FA deadlines coming up:

1. NFL teams have until May 3 to exercise the fifth-year option of contracts given to first rounders from the 2015 NFL Draft.

Patriots have 3 former 1st rounders to decide on:
#12 DT Shelton - $7,154,000 - likely
#29 WR Dorsett - $9,387,000 - not likely
#32 DT Brown - $7,154,000 - likely

2. UFA signed after May 8 deadline will not count against comp. pick calculation

As a member of the social teams unit, Reid would be in charge of the MyFace account.

Seriously, why would Reid "have almost no reps"? With D-Mac, Chung, Harmon and Reid (instead of Richards), why wouldn't the 2900+ D-snaps played by safeties simply be more or less evenly distributed among the four (instead of 1000, 1000, 7oo and 300)?
