2018 - Ja'waun Bently

Probably the most notable Boiler that could be drafted is 4 year starter, Ja’Whaun Bentley. He had a pretty good pro day. He weighed in at 246 Pounds, ran a 4.67 forty and did 31 reps on bench press. Not a bad showing for the Boilermaker standout. He has been working his butt off since the end of the season and it showed. You would like the 40 to go down a little, but it isn’t too worrisome.

Suggs’ 40-yard dash at the combine gave some talent evaluators pause. He ran it in the dragging 4.8-second range. He had an average vertical jump (33 inches) and just 19 bench press reps of 225 pounds. The average is around 25 for defensive linemen. Suggs slid a little bit in the draft and was scooped up by the Ravens at pick No. 10. His speed hasn’t proven to be a problem in the NFL.

Having said all that. Measurements are a little overrated. How does the guy play in pads is a question BB actually needs to ask as he puts together the team.

And for the people who get worked up about a 5th round pick. Get some perspective please. Any player taken in the 5th round or later is lucky to make the roster. In a really GREAT draft haul, maybe half your Day 3 picks make it onto the bottom of your 53 man roster.

For the first 30 seconds it was all celebrations. After that he looked ok. Didn't look too slow beating the receiver to the end zone on the pick 6.

I think it will be a challenging season considering what they have lost. I worry about an injury to a star defensive player because they basically only got Duke Dawson in this draft defensively.

Seems like Patriots LB Ja'Whaun Bentley could be a Day 1 contributor in the run game. Probably shouldn't expect much out of him in the pass game in coverage or as a rusher.
