Draft Rumors

I don’t know. I did find this though from Tony Pauline. It is a little concerning - Alabama players do have some issues at times moving to the NFL based around injuries or being underwhelming in terms of athleticism. The film is good though and I think Evans is a seamless fit for us.

Report: NFL teams miffed at Rashaan Evans skipping 40 at Pro Day

Well that's a red flag for me. 237 with a 30 inch vertical leap. More LBs athletic than that. He's under 6'2 as well.

Fair enough. I think his tape supports his case though.

Where did you see the neck issues? Even if so the guy's projected to be drafted in the top 20. Guy has a 39 inch vertical leap with a weight of 256. We will see who turns out to be a better LB.

Vernon Gholston, drafted out of Ohio State at #6 overall in 2008 by the Jets:
HGT = 6030
WGT = 266

4.58 40-yard
37 reps
42" vertical
125" long jump
4.40 shuttle
7.12 3-cone

He was out of the league in 3 years after accumulating a whopping 34 total tackles.

It's been reported by more than one source that Vander Esch wears a neck brace due to ongoing cervical issues.

Okay. Enough.

You completely misrepresent my post, and then @Sfpat picks up on your LOL-ing and ascribes that "logic" to me.

This is why I put ***holes like you on Ignore.

GFY
I wasn't ascribing any logic to anyone. It's a common theme on this board to compare the next QB to TB, which is what I was referring to.

Again why's he going in the top 20? His stock should be falling with neck issues. It must not be that serious. Teams did their clinical report.

You have fair point when it comes to that but just because he plays for Alabama doesn't mean he's gonna be a star. We will see how these two guys compared to each other in the future.

A prospects "draft stock" is a concept invented by the media to heighten the melodrama for fans. It's also the media that determines and tells us (or refrains from telling us) whether a prospect's "stock" is rising or falling.

That said, there are teams (or, more specifically, team owners and GMs) who get starry-eyed in love and are willing to ignore red flags to select the prospect with a high pick anyway. That's one of the reasons that 1st-round busts happen.

I doubt Vander Esch gets past Dallas at 19.

They rely too much on Sean Lee, who keeps getting injured, so LB is definitely a need. But do they bring in another LB with injury concerns?

You're referring to Evans? I'm not saying that Evans will become a star. I'm not even certain he's a good fit in the Pats defense.

And I really don't care much about where a guy played. Malcolm Butler came out of the University of West Alabama, fer chrissakes - a school not all that much bigger than my high school just outside Detroit.

It's Jerrah, so could be. Maybe even likely.

He's just a luckier version of the Browns ownership.

Apparently they really like him.

I love the stock is rising or falling comments.
What they mean are “my projection for this guy was too high” of “my projection for this guy was too low”.
There is no such thing as a consensus ranking of players that move up and down.

eh, I don't know about that.

So far, the pats are interested in Rosen, Jackson, Mayfield, McGlichey, a whole bunch of Wrs and a whole bunch of RBs. This means the pats will draft a cornerback.
Cornerback is a position I want to save until 43 since the differences between CB at 23 and 43 is very limited, while differences at LB and OT are significant.

I think all the developmental QBs suck
Any Draft pick is a crap shoot. 17%-19% success rate within a three year term. That is pro bowler, starter of valued back up. Everyone else is cut , traded of out of the league for some reason.

Throw darts and get better success. That is why 30% of every NFL Team is made up of UDFA , Trades and FA pick ups.

I've said it a few times. I would rather take a chance on Trade for Paxton Lynch and put him with Josh for a couple years. He has the arm. He has the size. He has played in the NFL and won. He is a square peg in Denver and they just paid Keenam. Elway will take a pick. Besides he is a former first rounder that BB can salvage and he loves that and will piss off Elway. The kid has won in the NFL and has NFL not just college tape. FYI his college tape surpassed the big three of Allen, Rosen, Darnold in this Draft at QB.

Elway will trade him. He also admits they did not do a good job preparing him. He's only 25.

Evans has lingering groin injuries that prevented him from participating in his Pro Day. Those make me more leery than any testing numbers. You just have to trust the film, and the film's really good. I'd be torn between him and Vander Esch. He wasn't the defensive playcaller in Alabama, though. Shaun Dion Hamilton was. He's a violent, explosive guy like CJ Moseley or Zach Brown.
