BGC 2018 DRAFT RB THREAD

That’s some seriously good testing for a 250lb back

Blount has a sub 7.00 3-cone at that type of size.

On that list, I like Nall. He always stood out to me when watching defensive tape against Oregon State. Shifty guy for his size. Nice power. Can catch. He can also do some lead blocking in a pinch.

Personally i'm not a fan of Gillislee, he just doesn't seem to get those crucial 1-3 yard gains when we need them. I

There's a fair amount of backs that i like;

Ronald Jones -- Stupidly Fast, has the ability to be a home run hitter

Derrius Guice - A faster and better catcher than Blount. Could give us a Corey Dillion esq seasons

Royce Freeman - There's something about him i really like, seems to make tacklers miss, good burst around the edge! Has bits of Dion Lewis to him.

Personally i'd take Guice if he was there in the second round with our first second rounder, other than that. I'm not entirely sure!

RB Boston Scott would be a great Dion Lewis replacement...plus his first name is perfect for being a Patriot.:)

Draft Prospect Outlook:

Smooth, multi-cut scat back who glides through intended rushing lanes and is adept at finding the cutback. Quicker than fast but isn't slow down the field by any stretch. Nasty jump-cut. Small, slender frame.

College Recap:

Recruited out of Zachary, Louisiana, Scott didn't play much until his redshirt sophomore season, when he amassed 275 yards on 34 carries and 251 yards on nine kick returns. He first flashed his upside in the 2015 New Orleans Bowl, breaking a 77-yard run as part of a 106-yard performance on just four carries. Scott earned a bigger role as a junior, playing in all 14 games and even making one start. He finished the year with 515 yards on just 74 carries (7.4 YPC) with six TDs as well as 125 yards on 11 receptions and 199 yards on 10 kick returns. His big performance came against Rice, when he took a career-high 15 carries for 137 yards with three TDs.

Scott finally saw rebular work as a feature back late in the second half of his senior season and finished the year with 1,047 yards on 183 carries (5.7 YPC) with eight TDs as well as 20 catches for 181 yards and a receiving TD. He again scored three TDs against Rice but broke out completely in the final stretch of his collegiate career, topping 100 yards in each of his final three games while getting at least 20 carries in each. -- R.J. I love some of these late round options. Great stuff, guys. Scott is a ton of fun to watch.

Another undersized jitterbug that I like is Justin Stockton. He didn't blow away the tests like Scott did, but he still had solid results. He also has over 80 career receptions and 10 receiving touchdowns. He's really good on draws, screens, and routes out of the backfield. He looks like an ideal 3rd down back. I might have mentioned him before. Tough to keep all the names straight!

Very physical runner, good blocker and has Blount like burst in the open field. Some impressive stuff on this tape. I doubt he’s more than a day 3/UDFA guy but he could be good competition for Gillislee.

I was extremely close to putting him on my P-TP list & still might.

He doesn't have the hype like Ballage but I know quite a few draft-niks that really like him. On my radar for a while. He doesn't move like 240-250 guy.

Running backs Larry Rose III and Boston Scott are rated highly for missed tackles.

Boston Scott is really an impressive RB prospect that fits our RBBC system.

Good stuff. I like Rose & Cannon quite a bit as lower tier, change of pace guys.

Couple small schools guys Ive talked w/ are getting tons of calls & love rn. Alexander (wr), Cannon (RB), Tavierre Thomas & Raven Greene have all been contacted by multiple teams. Some have talked to as many as 10+ teams.

Boston Scott does a pretty decent/good job in pass protection.

Sure his small stature will be a mismatch for some speed rushers, but it won't be because of his technique or effort.

Matt Waldman's RSP: RB Boston Scott

where do u come down on these small school guys? Round 5+ or strictly udfa? In general and guys u like this year?

I'm like manx and way behind on draft prospects this year.

Being a GSU alum, I usually watch Sun Belt, CUSA, AAC, MT West, MAC and FCS games over the major conferences.

I'm going to try and watch some film on those RBs you listed and Washington St.'s Jamal Morrow.

Yeah, it's kind of crazy. He has the production, the testing, the work ethic, the rugged frame (and came back strong from injury), but somehow I'm hearing Chubb projected end of the 2nd, beginning of the 3rd. I think people unfairly hold Michel's explosiveness against Chubb. They're different backs. There's a reason that Chubb still got the bulk of the carriers, though: he can grind down defenses and soften them up for Michel to rip off the big play. I love both backs, and the way we use RBs probably fits Michel better, but after watching Chubb for the last several years, I'm convinced that he's going to be a workhorse at the next level. I've seen some comparisons to Frank Gore, and I think that's spot on.

I think they're both good running backs but when you have two running backs who are 1st or 2nd round picks, I look to that offensive line. And those Chubb highlights that Waldman posted look just as much like Wynn highlights to me. If you watch a lot of those clips, you see Wynn crush the guy in the hole or burst out to the second level and seal off a linebacker to spring a gain. Watch the Kentucky one and Wynn stands up and drives his guy back 10 yards at the same speed Chubb is running at for the first part of the play. Chubb looks good but Wynn's a special player.

Agreed. That's exactly I have Guice RB1. He does **** you've never seen before but up 3-4 w/ 2-3 mins left, no to's you can hand it to him and no worry a bit bc hell grind it out, fall forward, get the tough 2-3 yards when theres nothing else there.

I have them ( Barkley/Guice) almost identical fwiw as far as a grade.

I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Barkley fall to the 10th pick or so. Nowadays GMs need to be assured there's literally no other player at any other position with comparable talent before they pull the trigger on a back. In a lot of ways I think the pendulum on backs has swung too far, but I also understand it.

I mean heres the thing thing and i said this in my other thread. If I was a GM I would go 80/20 to only drafting QB/Rush/DL/CB/OL Top 50-60 I think is fair with S being the possible exception being & elite talent. You can simply get the production at RB/WR /TE in the later rounds.
As far as a RB top 5-10 he has to be truly transcendent & while Barkley may be that, I know I can get similar production in later rounds.

How much better would the Jags be if they had Lattimore and grabbed Hunt or Kamara in the 2-3 where they belonged ( I had both as mid-high 3, Kamara just below a 2nd at 7.90 & Hunt at 7.55)

Imagine Lattimore, Ramsey & A.J. together? Idk maybe its me but that's how I look at it.
