Bruins are looking fantastic this year. I think they have a real shot at winning Lord Stanley's Cup.

The quality of their power play and penalty-killing is a big advantage. They can play in a high penalty game and expect to benefit.

Of course Belichick/Pats is at the top, but I was looking at the future more than the past. I thought that I made that distinction.
I'm really not a Celtics first guy. I support 3 of our 4 teams, at least until Brady leaves.

I covered my opinion of the future as well. I can't state enough just how strongly I feel that Belichick is so very gifted in his understanding of the pro game in it's totality that so long as he is in Foxborough the Pats have the brightest outlook of our 4 teams. Cap management and roster building have become the cornerstones of success in the NFL and he is just leaps and bounds ahead of everyone in the league. I have followed the Pats closely since first watching them play at Fenway but I freely admit as much as I love football I love and know hockey. I grew up playing hockey and played well enough to get a college scholarship, I've coached it in youth sports and high school and follow the NHL closely. I was a more serious basketball fan in the Russell/Havlicek eras but my interest waned as it became more and more a star driven entertainment spectacle that is officiated that way rather a true team game. The Celts under Stevens have won me back by applying the novel and unheard of concept of playing defense.

Ownership has become part and parcel of the long term outlook for a team. My baseball interest has waned considerably as the distance between the have$ and the have nots has increased over the years even though our hometown team is one of the have$. It probably does not help that in spite of their willingness to spend I find this Sox ownership unappealing in the extreme, they are slippery and thin skinned. I can get behind Kraft, he is one of our own made good. Ditto with Grousbeck, easily the best owner the C'c have had since Walter Brown. Jacobs ownership was long the curse of Bruins fans but truth to tell he never made a secret of the fact that what he bought was the Garden, it just happened to come with a hockey team and to him business is business. He subsequently got quite involved in the NHL and has been successful at the business side of it and good for the league as a whole but for fans his team had no chance of winning a championship until the salary cap came along. Giving the devil his due I have to admit at least he was true to his convictions and since the advent of the cap he was the driving force behind he has spent to it and the team and league are all the better for it.

Looks like the lightning will advance. Hope the B's take care of business tonight.
