Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

Here's the problem with your entire argument.

You say that BB made a call, and that's that.

BB says the call was solely football related

You say "We don't know that it was solely football related"

You are saying that BB is infallible one sentence, And then IMMEDIATELY devaluing his OWN words the next. It's kind of hard to take anything you say seriously when you sit on the fence like that.
I dont think anyone is saying belichick is infallible.
I think people are saying belichick values winning and knows how to win better than anyone so if his decision seems stupid there are certainly facts that you aren’t fully aware if that influenced it.[/QUOTE]

I have a source inside the Pats as well, And they told me Butler was benched because he missed his flight and was Late getting to Minnesota, coupled with the fact that he was sick(the reason for the missed flight) And BB decided that was enough to bench him for the entire game.

So it was not performance related (as you yourself admit). Butler should have gotten team permission to miss the flight. It’s his own fault.

Look, Bill comes from a coaching tree where things are done a certain way. His own mentor, Parcells, after the NFCCG in 1990 ordered team buses to leave for the SF airport without Jeff Hostetler despite Hostetler being late due to a post game interview. To these style of coaches, rules are rules. Are they a bit draconian? Maybe, but Butler knew them.

It’s been acknowledged by both sides that butlers head was not in it during practice.
Had butler played and the same result happened people would be saying B.B. shouldn’t have played a guy who was sick, and admittedly not dialed in to the game plan.

What your “source” said plus the practice issues certainly explain demoting him to cb3. It doesn’t explain motbpkayong him at all and I think the thing everyone glosses over is that butlers actions ON GAME DAY led to B.B. being afraid to put him on the field.

Now you’re just getting silly. It’s really shoddy thinking to believe a group of weak ideas become stronger if you put them together. It’s lazy.

And the “come to grips with a player being at fault” is a clumsy attempt to shift the perception that you’re being an increasingly shrill apologist here. It’s embarrassing and honestly beneath you.

Wrong. If it's one issue then you let it go and see what he can do. If it's several issues compounded you don't.

Why fans can't accept that possiblity is beyond me.

Isn’t your refusal to consider what butler did to warrant the decision just you being an incredibly shrill butler apologist?

Why do you think he was benched?

i can imagine the conversation now

Butler: "Hey coach can i talk to you about something"
Bill: "What is it malcom?"
Butler: "Listen do you think it would be okay if i got the flu this weekend?"
Bill: "What?"
Butler: "I'm asking for permission to get the flu, Also i'm going to need permission to miss my flight because im puking because of the flu"
Bill: "What?"

Lol what? He was sick all week prior to the team heading to minnesota. All he had to do was call someone on the team like stacy james and get permission. It’s not like butler got sick 1 hour before the plane left.

Maybe he's a alcoholic and the flu was a excuse? I have a Brother in Law who's struggling hard with alcoholism.

Your “reasons,” which are purely speculative, don’t begin to justify what occurred. People have no problem blaming players, we do it all the time.

I went through your reasons one by one and exposed each one. But you’re clinging to the false belief that throwing a lot of crap at the wall will make something stick. Sorry, doesn’t work that way.

It’s obviously a more difficult thing for you and others to grasp that Belichick screwed up.

So not playing a player who missed practice, wasn’t attentive in the practices he was at, didn’t learn the game plan and melted down before kickoff “doesn’t begin to be justified”.

You are aware that football is a team game and as a team they stress committment and doing your job right? I’m sure you loved “do your job” when it won SBs. It appears now you feel it’s optional and someone not doing their job should be swept under the carpet because that’s not really important any more since we lost the SB.

No, But maybe he was sitting at the gate, and then as they were seating people he had a sudden urge to vomit. You know what happens when you start vomiting on a plane before the plane takes off?

The take you off of the plane.

So maybe he went to the restroom to take care of it, maybe it took to long, maybe the plane left the gate while he was vomiting.

A whole lot of what ifs. But im sure if he had gotten permission before he puked everything would be fine.

More then likely not though, because BB doesn't stand for it, as seen by him punishing butler for it previously when it definitely didnt matter at the start of training camp.

BB is the greatest coach of all time. BB Also more then likely cost his team a superbowl.

What defenses were they running that Butler had zero experience in?

????

Of course it's logical to assume that a better player would make more plays than a lesser player. That's what makes better players better players.
But Butler was not playing to his ability in the playoffs ... add in sick and it's not logical to assume he would have performed better. I'd like to think he would have ... rise to the moment ... but we just don't know is all I am saying.

Butler should have been put on defense in the second half at the very least, even if we excuse Belichick for everything else.

Unless Malcolm punched Bill's son in the face or committed a serious crime I can't see another scenario where bill made the right decision.

If belichick felt Butler wasn’t prepared to play why would he all if a sudden think that changed at half time?
There is literally no logic that says you decide the best lineup for your team is to place butler as the last corner and them for no real reason just change your mind.
If that was how B.B. operated we would have zero rings.

Malcolm said he wasn't prepared like he normally was and not locked in.

Please explain how that is speculative.

Actually he said the way the patriots prepare they want you to be locked in and he admits he wasn’t.
