Re: Brady on "scandal"

Strong words.

Good.

Re: Brady on "scandal"

yes ..he cleared up a lot of the bs going round the league.

Re: Brady on "scandal"

One week at a time and we will take this whole scandel on the whole NFL..

You know what I'm waiting for? (and I don't think it's unrealistic)

I'm waiting for someone....anyone, really in the media or wherever, to get sick of this whole thing. To realize the Jets seem to talk about "new investigations" with every loss, coincidentally. To realize that we are still winning and the world is still turning. People love to be contrary. Sometimes not going along with the mob will get you even more recognition. So I'm waiting for the worm to turn.

Re: Brady on "scandal"

I thought Brady put things in context really well. The main theme (paraphrasing, I was listening in the car): BB and his staff are amazing, the whole team's preparation and attention to detail are extraordinary. Absolutely, the coaches are always looking for any possible angle and advantage -- within the limits of fair play. BB thought the taping was legit, he was wrong, he's paid for it. But it was just a tiny grain of sand in the giant mounds of preparation the Patriots do. And the idea that opponents' defensive calls were being radioed in to Brady pre-snap is absolutely absurd.

Oh, and rather that worrying about what people say and responding with words, they preferred to respond with their play on the field. Which they certainly did.

Re: Brady on "scandal"

It very clearly sounded like he and the team were very motivated by the things said by other teams and other coaches... and insulted by the various suggestions of anyone calling into question their wins.

He made a point of saying that such statements are based on ignorance, and that he's lost respect for those who have made such ingorant statements. They'll just continue to respond by letting their actions on the field speak for them rather than "classless" statements and displays.

As others mentioned, he was asked point blank if he knew what was going on re: videotaping... he danced around a bit saying only that they expect the coaches do everything it could to get every advantage, within the rules of the game.

He made clear however that any suggestion that defensive calls were being picked up, instantly interpreted and sent to him so he could adjust his reads accordingly were just rediculous.

He was also asked what he thought about Goodell... he didn't say anything bad but you got the clear impression he wanted to, just knew he had to be diplomatic... basically said Goodell has a tough job and has a lot of public relations experience. I took this to meant that Brady views Goodell's actions as designed to send a message to everyone in the league by making the Patriots a public scapegoat... and that he doesn't appreciate it.

Re: Brady on "scandal"

I think what I loved best was when the veteran players on the team all approached Belichick after the game and had words with him, as if to say, "We got your back, coach. We're going to shred this league this year in your honor."

The ranks have closed.

The wagons have circled.

The 2007 Patriots are a team on a mission.

This team, as pissed off as they are, with this kind of overwhelming talent, has officially reached HISTORICALLY SCARY dimensions.

Re: Brady on "scandal"

I heard the interview as well. He seemed especially pissed that players and coaches were piling because they should know better. Something about ignorance

And you know, we've noted that too. They should really know better. Piling on like a bunch of whiny children. I've never seen anything like it.

I mean, the "locking up the gameplan" stuff from last night. How stupid do Norv and the Chargers look now? Just ridiculous.

Right, forgot about that -- it was a point he came back to a few times. The idea seemed to be that if anybody really understood how this team prepared, they'd know how ridiculous a lot of the conclusions they're drawing are. Even said he wished someday fans could see what really went into preparing for a game under BB.

God could be on D & C and cannot listen, but share the pissedoffedness of most of us and Brady continues to articulate the real issues as he does well.. I still think most do not understand this team and its coaches, they confuse BB's silence with his need to focus on football operations.

Frankly, if I were Norv, I would have locked it up too! It was obviously a piece of sh*t!

Tommy has a remarkable way of being diplomatic while still getting his point across.

Agreed. He was very deliberate in some of his responses and he did get his point across. I loved the reference to classless people who should know better.

If we beat Indy in Indy 38-14, it's a slam dunk.

Hope they don't look past the Bills to the Bengals. Don't want to jinx, but I'm liking our chances of facing Indy while undefeated. Bengals D will be on the field a long, long time.

With a fresh carcass still on the ground? Not a chance. I'd see this lingering for another two weeks, and then petering out. You'll hear about it now and then, when some opposing player cracks wise about it in pregame interviews. Then, just when you thought it rotted away for good, it will stink and fester again when the Jets go to Foxborough. More talk of handshakes, midfield hugs, and so forth.

Here's the thing (in the mind of Sundayjack only, of course): No one's nailed the story, so it's always going to be called the "Patriots cheating scandal," and thought of in wild vagaries. If the Patriots were wise, they would "appoint" their own newsguy - preferably an out-of-town or national guy - for the story; give him inside access; let him see and hear from players and coaching staff who did what and how; and report it unedited to the masses. Let him editorialize. Unclothe the thing entirely. Then, and only then, will it die out. The intention of this would be preemptive. Someday, someone will get the whole story and put it in a book. I would think, for proper damage control, getting the complete story out now would prevent the slow bleed that it will do until someone writes that "definitive" story for cash.

What I think happened - some of this is guessing, and some is good information:

The Patriots have videotaped every sideline of every team for several years. They also take tape - video and audio - of their own sideline, and that's really how this started. I think the information primarily used for analysis after the game, but I also think that Ernie Adams was watching the defensive sidelines (among other things) to see if the signals for that particular game fit common patterns of past taping. He would also be tasked with breaking that game code as it was playing out. I don't buy into any of the radio transmission stuff, because there isn't time to get it down into Tom Brady's helmet before the microphone is cut. I don't buy the hand signal stuff because (a) that's silly, and (b) we've now seen the tapes, and that would be a little too much multitasking for one person. I think that certain people around the league are taking great delight in this scandal, and really don't have any interest in seeing it going away - particularly those with games against the Patriots this year. Lastly, I think it was illegal; I think that Belichick knew it was illegal; and I think that he relied on his notion (probably a correct one) that everyone is doing something to steal a edge here and there, and he probably saw this as fairly benign, in the grand scheme of NFL theft.

But, that's just my educated guess, and it's fairly tame. My point here is that people, like Sundayjerk and other opposing fans, are free to wildly speculate on the breadth of the issue. The Patriots could, and probably should, end the wild speculating.

The Bills are reeling. Bigtime. I feel bad for Losman because he's my neighbor and he's poured a lot of hard work into the community, but my sense is that his team has lost confidence in him.
