2018 mocks

Gave "On The Clock" a try - using Jeff Risdon's big board from RealGM.com (the most recent), team needs as determined by Fanspeak, and the "difficult" setting ...

23: R1P23
LB RASHAAN EVANS
ALABAMA
... By taking Evans at #23, I missed Mason Rudolph.

31: R1P31
S JUSTIN REID
STANFORD
... By taking Reid at #31, I missed Ejiofor and Hubbard.

43: R2P11
QB KYLE LAULETTA
RICHMOND
... More or less my default out of the few QBs who were left.

63: R2P31
OT KOLTON MILLER
UCLA
... By taking Miller at #63, I missed the rest of the likely Edge prospects.

95: R3P31
TE MARK ANDREWS
OKLAHOMA
... By #95, there wasn't much left, aside from maybe Leon Jacobs (LB). Good players are vacuumed up quickly on the difficult setting, apparently.

Beginning with #198, I was down to taking shots in the dark. QB Josh Allen fell to the Ravens at #118, BTW.

198: R6P24
RB ITO SMITH
SOUTHERN MISS

210: R6P36
EDGE DORRANCE ARMSTRONG
KANSAS

219: R7P1
WR DYLAN CANTRELL
TEXAS TECH

Very happy to NOT be Belichick (as I'm sure everyone else is, after seeing this mock).

Aside from the fact that Miller most likely won’t fall that far, that’s an excellent mock

Kinda surprised me, too, about Miller. OTOH, I've seen a few recent big boards that now have him ranked considerably lower than his hype level. Josh Allen slipping to #118 was a shock, but I've also seen him sliding a lot on a few other big boards.

A wide "likely round" range appears to have opened up for quite a few players, suddenly.

One prospect who appears to be sneaking up a bit since the Combine is Arden Key. Another is Safety Jessie Bates (?).

Anyway, it seems to me that all the attention to the QBs and to teams that lack them may be warping projections even more than usual this year.

Good mock, not so high on QB and TE, Cantrell reminds of Jordan Matthews.

Matt Miller -- take his report for what's it's worth -- says that he's hearing Miller's name in the 1st based on discussions with teams. I could see it. No one else has his size and athleticism.

Thanks.

Lauletta and Falk (and Josh Allen) were kinda what I was left with after using the #23 on Evans.

I didn't set out to take a TE at all, but Andrews was pretty much the BPA by the time I got to that pick.

Cantrell was one of a handful of names left on the board that I still recognized at that point.

On the "difficult" setting, it's truly amazing how quickly other even viable, much less preferred targets at all positions are whisked off the board after you make a pick, and it hits hard that every pick you make goes almost cruelly determines your next pick. You end up just taking what you can get.

Certainly a lot closer to "real life" than just picking favorites from someone's "top-100" list. Really, really glad I don't have to make those decisions in real life. You make what feels like a very good pick, but by the time your next pick rolls around, you're like, "OMFG! I've just totally effed-up the roster for the next two years!!"

Thanks.

I use these three websites, and even then they're totally different from instance to instance:

Walk the Mock - Mock Draft Tool
first-pick.com/NFL/DraftGame.aspx
fanspeak.com/ontheclock/ (obviously the board changes based on what you select, but even with the same board, there's really high variance in my experience)

I do have more appreciation of the difficulty of drafting with a time limit. Do your homework, stick to your board, and pick as quickly/confidently as you can.

Thanks.

What about your opinion on Dallas Goedert. Instead of Lauletta, I would pick Goedert.
I forgot to mention. I like ITO.

It very easy for us to criticize

With the mock parameters I used, I would have had to take Goedert at #31. Like I said, I wasn't really looking to draft a TE at all. If it had been real life, I'd have passed to take a safety or edge guy (or QB) with that pick, anyway.

I took Andrews above the other TEs left on the board because at least his blocking seems to be pretty decent, and his receiving production was also pretty good. And I don't see Goedert being 60+ picks better.

I haven't looked at the draft much this year but here is a thought. The jags are in a lot of cap trouble in the next few years and can't afford all their young talent likely even if they cut Bortles.

I think there is a chance we trade a pick for one of their players.

Did a first pick mock where my plan was to trade up for B. Mayfield. As I'm following I'm seeing QB needy teams Buffalo and Arizona trading out of their picks and Mayfield dropping. Ended up getting him at 23. My big concerns were LB, LT, and Edge rusher. Was able to get all 3. Traded 31 to the Browns for their 2nd, 4th, and 5th

Round 1 Pick 23: Mayfield, Baker, QB, Oklahoma (A)
Round 2 Pick 1 (CLE): Carter, Lorenzo, OLB, Georgia (A-)
Round 2 Pick 11: Oliver, Isaiah, CB, Colorado (B+)
Round 2 Pick 31: Reid, Justin, FS, Stanford (A)
Round 3 Pick 31: Brown, Orlando, OT, Oklahoma (A)
Round 4 Pick 14 (CLE): Leonard, Darius, OLB/ILB, South Carolina State (A)
Round 5 Pick 13 (CLE): Fatukasi, Folorunso, DT, Connecticut (A+)
Round 6 Pick 24: Smith, Ito, RB, Southern Miss (A+)
Round 6 Pick 31: Coutee, Keke, WR, Texas Tech (A+)
Round 6 Pick 36: Jackson, JC, CB, Maryland (A+)
I want nothing whatsoever to do with Mayfield, except to use him as bait to entice some foolish, desperate team to trade up for him.

Just seen a mock where we selected Chubb.. Didn't say what we gave up but he fell to 9, so imagine we sent the 23rd Pick, and something next year to go with it as we kept our 31st pick to use on Hurst...

CBS Just done an interesting Mock which has us Taking Minkah Fitz at 23 and Kolton Miller at 31...

I forget the site. But, I saw one that had R. Evans and D. Payne available at 23. Have to think BB would draft one and trade up for the other. No way does Minkah fall to 23.

USA Today has us trading both firsts and both seconds to go up to #7 for Baker Mayfield.

Wow, would that suck, to give up that much

I fecking hope not..

That's ridiculous.. Can't see BB giving up that much for Baker..

Would love Chubb but wouldn't give that much up for him

I saw a mock where the Giants take Rosen at 2 Jets take Mayfield.
I hope 6 QBs go before 23, then at 23 AND 31 we get non-QBs who by rights should not have been there. Then we later take a chance at developing White or Lauletta.
