Patriots now have 2 first round picks, what to do?

If bill sees a franchise QB than you do everything to get that QB. Maybe number 23 and a future first rounder and another quality pick to move up.

We have the capital now to move up to 9 or 10 AND keep the 43rd pick. Or, we could move up to 4-5 and deal 43rd with the 2 first rounders. We could get a stud LT at 9/10 or maybe lower, or we could go up to lets say 4 and get the best QB available. Or Chubb, if he drops to 4, which i think there's no way he gets past the Giants at 2.

We could go up to the middle/top half of the first and get McGlinchey, and possibly keep the 2nd rounders. I'd do that. Then we could get best available LB at 43.

I like Tackle Kolton Miller UCLA - 6'9" 309 at 23 and OLB - Edge Rusher Lorenzo Carter Georgia at 31 (assuming teammate Roquan Smith is off the board.)

I'd like to see the Pats draft LB Fred Warner of BYU in the 4th round- very smart, great hands, good coverage LB to develop.

I am not in love with the tackle class this year. We will see what he does.

Outside of Williams, I'm wishy-washy on it as well. Further, the need at tackle all depends on whether or not the team believes that Garcia will come back healthy and strong and be able to contribute.

Drafting a franchise quarterback before shoring up left tackle is putting
the cart before the horse.

Okay. I'll ask the question that rarely even seems to cross the minds of most fans ...

How likely is it that [insert name of binky prospect here], who may only be obtained by packaging x number of picks to trade up, will provide more value to team than the two or more prospects who might be acquired if the trade isn't made?

Every year there are few real studs in the draft. Who would be a stud for us might vary because of need. However, getting one of the real studs should be worth more than the combined expected value from the 23rd and 31st pick. To be clear, how much would we trade for someone who projects to be the next McGinist, the next Seymour, or even the next McCourty?

Pats rarely trade up very far. And I don't see them giving up both of their 1sts to move up. If they can trade #23 plus a mid round pick to move up for a guy they covet, I could see that though.

The #23 + #95 should get them the #19 (DAL). They'd be jumping ahead of BUF, CIN and DET.

Throw in the #198, also just acquired from the Rams in the Cooks deal, might get them to #18 (SEA), thereby also jumping ahead of DAL.

The #23 + #63 could get the Pat up to the #15 (ARZ).

This is merely what the Pats could do, if they choose to.

The question that always needs to be asked, though, is, "Will the specific prospect targeted at (#15) be more valuable to the team than the two prospects they might have selected at (#23 and #63)?

OTOH, if one objective is to significantly upgrade from Roberts and Richards, which helps more - trading up from someone like Smith, or staying put and drafting, say, Vander Esch and Reid? Is Smith really going to provide that much more value to the team?

So what would the Pat's roster look like after this draft?

Drafting a franchise quarterback before shoring up left tackle is putting
the cart before the horse.

I expect us to draft a LT with our first 2nd or sooner. If the team believes that 2-3 OT's will be available when we pick, then I could see us moving up in the first.

Alternatively, I could see us using #23 for our LT and move up for where we think is worth it with 2-3 other picks. After all, 31 and our seconds could move us up to the top 10. AND, we would still have 23 for our LT.

Because of an influx of players returning from injury, the Patriots already have
a well stocked roster. For this reason, I can't see them trading down much to obtain extra picks. Instead, they may trade up to obtain a couple or three key players at
quarterback, left tackle, and linebacker.

I could see them trading a few picks into next year when more roster slots might be open
