Cooks traded to Rams for 23 overall pick

You are kidding...right? Dorsett is a bust, Cooks is a 1000 yard receiver (multiple times).

It's a little sad that people are still holding out hope that Phil will be a significant contributor, if he even makes the team.
Is this like that time Julian Edelman was a bust because he couldn't get snaps over Deion Branch and Wes Welker?

Highly unlikely he’s even there at 23. So leaves us with what Conor Williams or Kolten Miller? Imo there’s better players on the defensive side available here. We would need a wilfork type miracle slide to see McGlinchey.

I think you’re mistaken. Plenty of mocks have mcglinchey well into the 20s

Edelman was on IR all year. Mitchell was out the entire year. Hogan was missing for half of the season.

And yet Dorsett barely got any looks in the passing game. You are full of crap.

Also lets not forget Cordarelle Patterson would love to see him blow up here.

Trade a mid round pick for Josh Gordon wait for the Cowboys to release Dez
Trade for draft busts in Cleveland or Minnesota.
For the love of God dont draft a receiver high unless Josh is picking this dude.
Would the Broncos part with either Thomas or Sanders.
Would the Bengals trade either John Ross for a mid pick or take 31 for AJ Green.
I think Green is by far the most dominant receiver when the ball is in the air.

Yeah, the idea that the Patriots are a dink-and-dunk team is about ten years out of date. They've been consistently one of the most vertical offenses for the better part of this decade, and Cooks was an acquisition with that in mind.

Most vertical offenses?

Maybe I'm wrong. Which WR did we draft in the first round? Chad Jackson was a high 2.
We have not drafted a 1st round WR in Belichick's entire tenure.

Kind of shocking trade. Never saw this one coming. Not sure how I feel about this. But the cap savings and 1st round pick is a nice return. I wonder if they are looking at Ridley or Sutton (my favorite). But imagine getting Vander Esche and Hubbard in the 1st round ? I’d love that.

Not sure I love the trade as much as some people, liked Cooks but figured he'd be gone next year. Good to see us finally gets a first rounder in return.

Was wondering wasn't Tavon Austin supposed to be a free agent? He's kinda Cooks-esque.

Tavon Austin is not Cook-esque.
He is more like Dorset-esque
Dorset and Austin are real fast running straight with no football or defense involved.

Mike Florio is nuts if he thinks the Patriots are trading up for a blue chip QB prospect. Their drafts have been unlucky/bad for several years now, and no team can sustain success by paying veterans market value across their roster. I wouldn't be surprised if they traded down for more picks.

I know the team needs a QB and a LT but with 5 picks in the top 100 if 3 of those players arent in the front 7 I'm gonna staple my head to the carpet

Would you agree that he’s the best OT in this class?

I’ll go back to 2010 with the draft. The top OT went as follows:

2010-#4
2011-#9
2012-#4
2013-#1
2014-#2
2015-#5
2016-#6
2017-#20

Bolles went 20 last year and I’d say McGlinchey is a better prospect. 23 puts us in a spot to grab a tackle I just don’t think McGlinchey will be there (most likely going in the teens somewhere)

Do you really think we need that much help in the front 7? I can see DE and LB.

With Cooks massive payday looming, it’s surprising the Rams were willing to deal that kind of currency for a very good, but not elite, receiver. This is a masterful stroke by the Pats front office.

2 firsts and 2 seconds - can’t wait for the draft!

I would agree, but will other teams?

Theres a legitmate chance hes gone before that pick, The part We disagree on is the chance of him making it to 23.

This offense has always been about Gronk + Edelman then the rest. In 2013 for the few games Gronk/Jules were healthy we scored 29 PPG with KT & Dobson surrounding them. The offense legitimately did not blink with Cooks out of the game in the superbowl. Slide Hogan in as a starter & have competition at WR3.

We just robbed the Rams. Robbery. We basically got out of jail free card with that odd trade from last year. Cooks is a solid player but not a #1 WR nor a player that can consistently beat man coverage.
We kinda rented a 1000 yard receiver by delayed a first a year and mixing up 9 spots.
