Cooks traded to Rams for 23 overall pick

I’m not sure about this. They must have a plan to trade for someone.

Of course this is no guarantee, but if they get a starter-worthy defender at #23 then this trade makes sense.

But they don't think Dorsett replaces Cooks for 1000 snaps
Maybe Edelman plus Mitchell plus (Britt or Dorsett) replaces Cooks plus Amendola. That is less of a stretch.

Not you too?

Well, I’m trying to keep hope alive for Dorsett.
I’ll miss Cooks. I really liked his polish and speed. He had a couple of big plays left in him were it not for the concussion.

I liked Cooks but this trade is a borderline steal. I'd like them to use some of the capspace now on Maclin or Matthews.

Awesome. They can use that first round pick to draft another great WR. Bill has a storied history of drafting great ones.

I'd be little bit happier about this deal if we kept Amendola. Now our best WR is coming off ACL surgery.

You overrate JE11 coming off an ACL and underrate Patterson.

I don't think I'm overrating Edelman. I have two kids who are college athletes who have torn ACLs and were back at full strength within the year. Edelman is an elite athlete with world-class medical care and physical therapy. Welker tore his at the end of one season and was solid the next year. Edelman will have had a full year to recover. He should be very close to 100%.

I underrate Patterson because there's a reason why two other teams have let him go. He's just never been a great receiver is all. I really HOPE he turns the corner and becomes something solid at WR, but right now, all I see is a special teams guy.

To primetime's point - yes Britt didn't get much PT for NE last year. They added him in mid-December, for crying out loud. In 2014, 2015 and 2016, on crummy teams, he put up these numbers:

2014: 48 rec, 748 yds, 15.6 ypc, 3 td
2015: 36 rec, 681 yds, 18.9 ypc, 3 td
2016: 68 rec, 1002 yds, 14.7 ypc, 5 td

So we know he can play. That's not in question. Patterson, for all his speed, has never had a ypc of more than 11.6, which is hard to believe.

Wow. Go study for awhile, come back, and Cooks is gone. Disn't see it coming, but I really have to say I like this deal.

Imagine I posted a link to Bethel Johnson, Chad Jackson, Aaron Dobson, Donald Hayes...
Versus David Patten, someone with a modicum of success in our system with similar size and skill set. Apples/oranges...

Wow....they must be confident in the WR's we have or really like someone in the draft or will trade for someone else. This takes care of one UFA for 2019.

Like they were confident in 2006? Bill has no problem going into a season completely bare at one position or another.

Great trade. I liked Cooks, he got slagged on a little unfairly, but bottom-line: he played like a jackass in the Super Bowl, got K.O'.d, and the offense did just fine without him.

WR corps definitely a little ragged at the moment though.

I said in another thread that there was no way Bill was gonna pay this guy #1WR money, so.....

Good. Trade.

Why wouldn't you draft Calvin Ridley or D.J. Moore with five years of cost control & the upside to maybe be a better WR down the road if you're the Rams....

they're trying to stack their roster for a title run
