Duron Harmon Apologizes For Incident In Costa Rica

And in Saudi Arabia they'd cut your hand off for it. I'm not sure we should take Texas as an example of a place with enlightened and just laws.

I agree. But we are not discussing which jurisdictions have enlightened laws. Harmon was a maroon for taking drugs on a plane. He risked time in jail and penalties from the NFL. He had no clue at the penalties that Costa Rica or FL might impose. He still doesn't.

Of course, it is also important that he ruined his family's vacation.

You made this claim about penalties in Florida in the other thread but it doesn't make any sense. He flew through Fort Lauderdale airport. The state isn't going to prosecute him for 2 ounces of weed without any physical evidence based on a newspaper article about statements from Costa Rican authorities. It would get laughed out of court, and all for something that would land him a citation and fine. The only penalty he faced from Costa Rica was being detained for a short time and denied entry to the country. This **** probably happens daily with tourists; it's not Midnight Express.

I know plenty of people who travel regularly with weed and never get caught. It was probably stupid, but it's not that stupid.

More enlightened & just than in Saudi Arabia, it seems.

Don't know the details of his detention, but I ass-ume that he wasn't foolish enough to attempt to sneak his stash inside his carry-on luggage. It is almost always better to hide the stuff with your checked-in luggage.

And as far as his "apology" goes, I would've kept my mouth shut and simply not issued one, or any other statement for that matter. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool...

He got discovered in a routine check in customs. Who knows what that means. I've never had my bags searched by customs anywhere (had my bags searched by TSA but they'd probably just steal anything of value and not report it), but I generally walk right through the green line after getting my bags. Maybe he doesn't travel internationally much and went through the red line, which would be dumb if understandable, maybe he got caught by a dog or a random search. Who knows.

He’s a real idiot if he thought hiding the weed in an iced tea bottle was going to work

It looks like it’s one of those hidden containers that looks like a can of soda or iced tea, but nonetheless, he’s still dumb as anything for attempting this.

Those hidden containers can be useful for home, but not in this situation. No one carries a full, unopened can of soda in their baggage. If you do, you can expect to have it carefully scrutinized—especially if you’re dumb enough to have it weigh 15-20% of what it should (rough estimate).

I'm coming around to the notion that Harmon could rightfully be in for some serious league and/or Patriots discipline. This is not just a dude wanting his weed; what he did was beyond moronic carting that stuff around internationally. All he had to do was cool it and find a local connection once he got there.

Let’s hope it proves to be nothing more than a situation similar to Kevin Faulk, at least in terms of seriousness.

I fully agree with you that his actions were stupid, but this isn’t newsworthy in the least, aside from it being an NFL player. Your last sentence is spot on.

It's newsworthy -- and more significant than it otherwise would be -- that he was nabbed bringing it into another country. Imagine how much messier it could've been if it wasn't a country friendly to Americans. Harmon is lucky his stupidity didn't land him in a foreign prison.

you're not in MA anymore Toto

Belichick was pretty nonchalant when asked about it before the league breakfast.
Highly doubt that Belichick would punish him at all.

Don't really care about the weed. His judgment is questionable though, for sure.

Big question now will be how much discipline? Do we know whether or not he's already in the drug program? I was under the impression that they don't disclose that until they reach the point where fines/suspensions are given out, so he could be in already or not.

If he is suspended, what's the short term plan for safety depth that doesn't include Richards playing more snaps?

Also for saying this doesn't represent who he is as a person.

He just happened to have 4 different types of weed on him so he could get his fix no matter what he was doing.

with that quantity its quite an oversight, but I've traveled to Europe a couple of times and realized once I got there that I've got some kind of cannabis products either in my backpack or shaving kit because I always have it around with me.......usually tincture or edibles and not flower so there's that

I think the pats draft a safety this year...maybe Justin Reid at 31?
