2018 Combine

On the other hand, Hughes of ucf should definitely be there at 43.

I am really hoping qb’s mason and allen are available at 31, because bb would definitely flip 31 to someone for hopefully a 2 and a 3. Then he can flip the 3 for a 4 and a 5.

However is Evans of Alabama or vea of Washington fall to 31, bb needs to make the pick!

Ps: no one thought Malcom brown would have ever fallen to us the year he came out. Stranger things have happened and good things come to those that wait!

I fully expect the Pats to be sifting through the UDFA to find OTs to put on the Practice squad. They need at least one MORE OT who can play either side, though I also wouldn't be surprised to see one of the 2nd round picks used on an OT because of the questions surround Garcia and Cannon.

The problem is that there is nobody there around that area who seems to be worth it. There is McGlinchey who looks like an eventual starter and then there is the rest who all look like developmental prospects for one reason or the other.

Kolton looks like a clone of Solder in terms of athletic profile so he might be interesting but in a weak tackle class who knows how early a team will grab him.

Some more linebacker / edge combine number crunching. Look for some gifs soon.

I mentioned Peter Kalambayi before as someone who stood out positively to me on the Stanford defense when watching tape on Meeks last fall, and he put up great numbers at the Combine. I'm shocked he's not getting more hype. Admittedly, he wasn't a big stats guy, but I think he could slide in to the McClellin or Van Noy role pretty handily.

Kylie Fitts I like better as an off the line player, even though he primarily played DE. I'm not sure I saw enough technique to leave him as a pass rusher or full time run defender, but I did like his bull rush. At first I questioned his functional strength against the run, but once I saw how successful his bull rush is, I realized it's the difference between extending his arms and playing with leverage, vs tossing his shoulder into the blocker and just trying to hang on for dear life. He drops occasionally on tape, and looks pretty fluid. Regardless of DE or OLB, he has solid size and measurables. Good comparisons at either position:

Trevon Young might be a decent fit for us at line backer. He has a very nice spin move as a pass rusher, but overall I like him better in space vs crashing into linemen inside. He does have the size for it, but I prefer his game when he gets to chase down plays. He has some experience playing in space, and I think he'd be a good inside/outside linebacker for us in multiple formations. Plus, his comparisons at ILB are Rolando McClain, Dont'a Hightower, and Leighton Vander Esch, so you can see why I chose this chart to profile him:

Warming towards Carter and am starting to prefer him over Hubbard. We’ve been desperate for some explosion/athleticism at the linebacker position since Collins left.

I wouldn't mind both of them. Hubbard in the Nink role, and Carter as Collins.

Agreed, but we kind of have Van Noy and maybe Langi for that Nink (and where does Rivers play?) role which is why I feel that’s less of a need. Still OK with Hubbard but I think I’ll end up wanting Carter ahead of Hubbard. And boy does this defense need some speed and explosion along the front 6/7.

Hubbard, Carter, the duke and Thomas are all options that would work for us.

What about Godwin Igwebuike?
4.44 - 40
6.56 - 3 cone
4.12 - Shuttle

Supposedly an excellent tackler..
5'11 3/8 - 213@#

Could you all see him in the Chung Role and possibly taking over for McCourty?

Ha! Was reading his nfl.com scouting report and was thinking he sounds like Delano Hill who was drafted out of Michigan last year and sure enough his player comp was Delano Hill. The tl;dr is that he projects as a ss/nickel backer (so kudos to you) but that his coverage skills aren’t great. Scores well for character and special teams skill set though.

The coverage skills is definitely an issue if the Steve Belichick can't work with him..

Van Noy is upgradeable.......dude's ok but has some limits and I think Langi has a higher top end

Numbers are great. Some plays look amazing. He's already 24, though, so he's more developed than most players (for example, Tremaine Edmonds is 5 years younger), and he doesn't always display smart play. For someone with more experience / maturity, I'd like to see more awareness on the field. There are times he overruns the play, and he bites hard on play action.

Overall I like the player, though. If he's there in the 4th, I'm all in for that pick. He's probably a better Chung understudy then McCourty replacement. Reid is my do it all safety. I'd take him at 31.

Tremain Edmonds is 19 and has 3 years beyond HS?

Why do you think he can’t?

I wasn't saying that S.B. couldn't work with him. I was saying that the coverage would be an issue if S.B couldn't work with him. I don't know squat about him.

Yup. He's the youngest player to enter the draft in quite a few years. Maybe since Amobi Okoye? So perhaps that's not a fair comparison . . . my bad.
