Giardi: Patriots Players are Miserable

Some other notable moments from the final episode, from the interview with Chopra, the director:

—End scene (where Tom has complete control of what’s filmed, what makes it to the final cut, and what the narrative will be) Brady seems to question why he still wishes to continue playing. “When you lose your conviction, you should probably be doing something else.” They most certainly could have chosen to end on a different note. Basically, anything would have been an acceptable substitute.

—Quote from Gisele: “he just wants to go to work and feel appreciated.”

—From Director Chopra: “I do think he’ll play in 2018,” but “we’ll see,” and that I do think “these next few weeks and few months are going to be very telling.”

—Chopra: “This is a much different offseason for him. Tom is juggling a lot of different things, and I think that’s what he basically says at the end: ‘I’ve got to recalibrate and I’ve got to find that conviction again.’”

******** comments by Chopra. It was just during SB week Brady was talking about playing until he’s 45, and questions “why does everyone want me to retire so bad?”

This is all PR related stuff. The ESPN article back in January was slanted to favor BB, all this recently coming out from Giardi and Curran (Curran is known to also train with Guerrero down at TB12) to favor Brady and Guerrero.

You're kidding, right?
I agree that his comments are a bit over the top, although I’m guessing that they stem from the idea that he’d rather have had 10-12+ years of a future franchise QB versus one or two more years of Brady.

While I’m going to keep my thoughts on that issue to myself, I think the initial idea was that we were parting with Garoppolo for another 4-5 years of Brady, which made all of the sense on the world. If that 4-5 years suddenly becomes 1-2 years (which, judging by Chopra’s comments could be the case), then I can see why some may question the move.

Not taking sides in this hypothetical, but just explaining how I interpret the poster’s comment.

And the situation with Gronk, which started prior to the playoffs, and possibly even his concussion? Obviously, he wasn’t too happy and the SB didn’t have anything to do with that. Kraft himself also made comments that there was “tension” prior to the SB. Who were Kraft’s comments slanted towards helping?

How about the report from Mark Daniels at the ProJo, claiming that the Patriots tried to prevent him from reporting on Guerrero’s training with Gronk, multiple times? Who was that article slanted towards? You’re claiming that guys like Girardi, Curran, Daniels, and Chopra are all writing articles/directing projects to somehow try and help the situations of Gronk and Brady? How will that work? They’re helping them push for new deals or in-house access to Guerrero? Both?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that it's just barely possible that needlessly pissing off Brady is not the best move BB could make.

How do you know this?? Innuendo?? Listening to Chopra podcasts?? Felger?? Bertram??

Needless pissing off Brady or motivating him??? a very fine line.. whole lot of conjecture floating about, not a lot of facts..

Did you watch the ending of the documentary or read the comments made by Brady (and the director) posted earlier in the thread? These are coming directly from Brady, himself, who also took the time to show what he now has to go through to receive treatment for his injuries by hiding in a suite with blockers in front of the windows.

Judging by Brady’s comments, how he carefully chose to portray the documentary, Gisele’s comments, Etc, there seems to be much more this time than “just” some talking head mediots. Are they possibly overblowing it? Sure, but there’s obviously some discord. Again, even Kraft has commented on it, as well as the need to have a meeting to try and iron some things out.

I get that there are many Brady homers around who cant stand him being critizised about literally anything but maybe he should have not been so passive aggressive in his documentary about it all but instead continued to talk to BB and Kraft.

There is no scenario in which whining your grievances out via a facebook show will actually help a situation. If he wants to play it up for dramatic effect then fair game.. but if he really wants to defuse a potential situation then he should have known better than that.

I was not a fan of the series. Not the premise, the inside stuff, definitely not the timing, and the “we just assumed that we’d win the SB and had no backup plan” decision to put the project on hold after the loss to Philly. Most of all, I wasn’t a fan of his decision to end it like that. There could have been 100 different endings that were more positive and much more acceptable.

I liked anything that didnt play up the drama. Seeing him with Dola and Edelman in Montana was fun. Seeing him prepare for games was interesting. Seeing him on a high after the Jax game in the car talking to Gronk was great.

I dont have much interest about his house, family or whatever so those aspects did really nothing for me but given the state of reality tv nowadays I am sure there is a crowd out there for it.

And as you said the ending was badly designed. I get that from a narrative perspective it is interesting to see how the ultra prepared guy deals with coming up a few milliseconds short but we really did not need that final scene where the entire thing ends on an uncertain, passive aggressive note.

I absolutely love Tom Brady. But what this suggests to me is that he and Gronk, possibly others, might be losing sight of the fact that playing in the NFL for millions of dollars is a privelege, not a right in which they should feel entitled to dictating conditions of their employment. Maybe they feel they no longer need to be subjected to BB's iron-fisted form of management or have "outgrown" it. In that case, perhaps they should move on. Which also lends credence to BB's wanting to retain Garoppolo against the odds.

The more I think about it the situation might be akin to having a really tough, demanding boss. I'm sure we have either seen or experienced it ourselves. You may love your job, are paid well and love your company but your boss is sucking the life out of you. Perhaps with Tom and Gronk, because their legacies are secure and are financially secure they might be a little less welcoming to BBs demanding work environment now.

I'm not taking their apparent weariness of BB as a lack of desire to play hard and win.

The media smells blood...it'd be a shame if the Pats go 13-3 and wind up in the AFCCG again.

Hey thats my line! And I agree!

:p

Am I the only one who is just tired of all this bleeping drama? I came to watch men play football, not this soap opera...
There is a type of fan that seeks the drama and feeds off the emotional perspective. But they aren’t true football fans.

They’re the type I can’t watch a game with. Who worries about the “happiness” of our players or whether they’re “appreciated”? Not me.

Gee, I wonder how “happy” they were after beating the Falcons? And since Brady & Gronk will be first round HOF’ers, that’s enough appreciation.

I hope Bill still says “c’mon Brady, I can get a high school kid to run that play”

Will the group hugging session be in pads or shells?

I'm thinking more of a family dispute mediator.

"Bill, Robby and Tommy are just expressing their inner feelings"

"You have to acknowledge their feelings Bill"

"Bill, 'Just Do Your Job' does not acknowledge their feelings"

They hate their coach. Definite return to the Super Bowl again. The guys that are always happy are the ones collecting a big check from the Browns for doing nothing.

Huge B.B. fan here. I give him « the most credit » for the success, while recognizing that Brady can easily be argued as « the key ».

However, in 2018, despite ridiculous success, it is very possible that the coach’s style isn't what many young athletes crave. It is possible tension has grown.

I am confident the winning will continue, but I am open to the idea of B.B. not being everyone’s fav or BFF or ROFLcopter.

Love me some B.B. Not dismissing that his style might not be for everyone.

Brady is not a young athlete and he is the ring leader in this revolt. A diva yes, a young athlete no.

A lot of this is stemming from people trying to make sense of what will be an inevitable end to this golden stretch. No one coaches forever, no one plays forever, and the fact that BB and Brady have been able to keep it together for this long is already incredible. When the end comes, be it this year, next year, or 10 years (kidding, kidding) from now, it will be because you have a 70+ year old coach and a 40+ year old QB.

But that's not good enough for some. The same mentality that makes us always question "why?" will cause people to think if only Belichick had been a little more forgiving, or if only Brady had been a little less intense, or if only the Patriots had kept X player, or Y coach, or allowed Z trainer to practice wherever he wanted, maybe... just maybe this run could have continued. People always like to think they can swoop in with one decision and change the course of a franchise, without having to take responsibility for the myriad of decisions that came before.

The end is coming, fairly soon. But in my opinion it will be because of time, and not because of drama. That's just a way for some people to think they could have managed the most successful run in the salary cap era better.

Am I the only one who has made no effort to watch the show? It's not that I wouldn't watch, but I don't really care enough to make the effort.

Really, all I care about is that they come back and play. After getting rid of JG, any suggestion from Brady that he might not is outrageous, so I'll ignore that and assume it's meaningless. Just play and win. (And don't bench starting cornerbacks in the Super Bowl. Also that.)
