He is well worth signing, expecting that he will be an important part of the linebacker corp. He can actually cover.Only two major Patriots free agents left are Slater and Burkhead, by my estimation. Guys like Bademosi and Flowers are out there but they're replacement-level. Patriots should have $15m+ to work with, and could make more room with extensions or restructures or forcing Dwayne Allen to take a paycut. A splash signing like Mathieu or Suh is certainly within reach with room for a few value guys.
He would be a very helpful player, the ability to play pretty much every DB position effectively would be a boon to the secondary, and it would provide insurance for Chung and McCourty that we really don't have right now (Harmon is a nice player and can do some of what McCourty does, but we play big nickel often and don't have a backup to replace Harmon in that case; Richards isn't a nice player at all). We could effectively play either of the big dime packages with him there (3 safeties or 4 safeties) assuming team health. I wonder what his market will be?
Robinson's been available since November when he was waived with an injury designation, so that seems unlikely.
When you don’t have good players you gave cap space.According to Spotrac they have about $11m in cap space. Not sure if that is accurate. You're right though. Several teams seem to have more cap space than one would think. Do they manage (or violate) the cap better than NE? I doubt it.
I'm with you Kontra. How many ways would Bill use this guy?! Ultimate jack knife. Just don't see it happening at all. Mathieu is going to break the freaking bank! I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't end up being the highest DB paid in NFL history. Why, well why not? Look at all these contracts being thrown around. A team like SF would be a good fit for him. I just don't see us being able to compete with a team that has a ton of cap space. But, if Im gonna be honest here, we all know he is gonna sign some monster deal with a team that is already over the cap.Cards just released Mathieu. Pats need to be all over this.
If marquis flowers is playing much defense, things went wrong.I disagree with regard to Marquise Flowers. He is well worth signing, expecting that he will be an important part of the linebacker corp. He can actually cover.
Scar can fix him so I agree it's a possibility.I wouldn't be surprised if they signed someone like Greg Robinson on a short term deal and had him go against Garcia to see who would win the job..

He'll want more money than Butler.
on my list as well
Clayborn is a nice player. But not a difference maker. Would not be a bad get
Not a bad get, not a good get either. Those sack totals for him last year are skewed since he got 3/4 of those against a backup OT for Dallas when Tyron smith was out.
