Nope.

Pats deal
1 year, $3.91m tender
5 years, $62m

What Butler ended up getting

1 year, $3.91m tender
5 years, $61m

What matters is the guaranteed money. Which I believe was 30 with the Titans and 25 from the supposed Pats offer?

Definitely will make out better. Top big corner and decent tall corner allows us to hunt for cheap smurfs, or JJones and have only one big salary.

What if he accepts? Do the Patriots still bench him after paying all that money? Perhaps, but maybe not for the entire game.

This is questionable logic. It's not like they couldn't have, you know, just not benched him regardless.

It's possible to believe that benching Butler in the Super Bowl (or at least leaving him benched) was idiotic and also not be too unhappy to see him go because someone inevitably paid him more than his play warrants. Like Logan Ryan, I'm happy that he got paid and I wish him well in the future. I'm also happy that we have Gilmore as our #1 for less money.

If that is true, his agent really is a moron. No waiting a year, protected in case of injury...

Actually, Butler would have been the moron in that case. If this report (which strangely comes out one day after he signs with another team) is to be believed.

Sorry, but after the Super Bowl ******** I would have left for $1.00 more. That was an embarrassment to this franchise and if ANY other coach on ANY other team did this, they would be absolutely demolished publicly and privately.

Methinks if Butler was offered 26 mill guaranteed, he would have accepted that contract, played a little better, and not have been benched at all in the SB. So, I tend to disbelieve the assertion.

$5 million in additional guaranteed money is significant.
Zero Tennessee state income tax is significant (minimum of 10 games/year in zero state income tax states)
Therefore...
His minimum compensation will be significantly better in Tennessee as is the after tax $$$$ he will be able to bank.

I imagine he was taking the advice of his agent who was pitching him as if he was a Free agent.

Guy didn't want to be here.

Two possibilities.

(1) The report is BS. How many 6 year contracts are there in the NFL?

(2) The last years in the contract were BS(possibly @ high price). Explaining why they guaranteed was lower. 25.5m vs 30+4(counting the RFA as guaranteed)

Butler didn’t like it here...bottom line

Field Yates just reported patriots offered 6 year 66 million..25 or it guaranteed...butler turned it down last year

I imagine he was taking the advice of his agent who was pitching him as if he was a Free agent.

Butler would still override that as the client and a guy who realizes that a crippling injury could have happened before hitting FA which would have ruined any chance he had whatsoever of getting a big market deal the following year. I find it hard to believe that Butler wouldn't have taken that deal last year.

Patriots PR damage control

When is the last time the Pats gave out a 5 year or 6 year contract.

Good for Butler. Not playing Butler lost the Superbowl , and now a bunch of quality players have left. Brady's window is closing.

Roll eyes.. pretty informed leak, seems like some after the fact PR by the Patriots. If Butler would have come back I would have lost all respect for him after the Superbowl.

Watching his highlights scrolling across the screen the dude competes. Not his best year in 2017 but I will never understand why he couldn't have been the 5th or 6th option in the Superbowl.

Anyway, onward and upward, onto 2018.

I don’t believe this for a damn second.
Neither do I. You don't bench a guy for the Super Bowl (and in many minds, including my own, lose because of it) then offer him big money. I call a big BS.

If they leak is from the Pats, then I have lost some respect for them (just like I lost some for BB after the Super Bowl).
