So Bennett and Marcus Peters were given away for peanuts thus far and we didnt want in even for Bennett?

Neither player was a good fit for the Patriots in 2018.

Wonder how they will handle this cap wise.

Last I checked, the Eagles were about $10M over the cap.

Rumor is that they'll now try to trade Vinny Curry. Then, they'll need to cut a bunch of player and restructure the contracts of several others.

I’m doubting that they will be retaining many of their own FA’s, which includes guys like Robinson, Blount, and Bradham.

He’s 32, but he had 8.5 sacks last year...

A 5th for Bennett seems pretty cheap. In the Superbowl, we had a hard time blocking him and every time I watch Seattle, he seems to make plays.

Bennett is dirt cheap must have been deemed not a fit.

Only his salary. The Eagles are now on the hook for his multi-million $$ roster bonus, too.

IIRC, the total cap hit for the Pats would have been in the $5.75M range for 2018 and higher in 2019.

The Eagle are now likely to trade Vinny Curry, who's never really fit their system, but might fit the Pats in a Nink-type role. And he may be cheaper than Bennett was (is).

EDIT: Oops! I hadn't checked OTC before posting this (the OTC sit has been dog-slow this afternoon). Curry's 2018 salary is actually $10M - waaaaay out of the Pats' price range.

7.5 mil base salary is not dirt cheap. It’s not crazy but it’s not nothing.

I somehow must have looked at the wrong player on overthecap. I thought it was only 5m but he will be getting 6.6m (1.6m base + 5m roster bonus) this year as far as I can tell.

Sooo we were in the running.

Eagles defeat us yet again.

Seattle receives a 5th and a young, speedy WR who may replace Paul Richardson (soon-to-be UFA).

More than likely just due diligence. Considering what it took to get him, the Patriots couldn't have been TOO interested.

Yeah, I'm not buying Russini's story, at least in terms of teams having real interest. If all it took was a non-playing WR and a 5th rounder, all those teams could have found something to beat that just by looking under some couch cushions.
