2018 Combine

As I mentioned, I think he compares quite favorably to Jimmy Graham or maybe Kelce. As a pure receiver, he's got a leg up on all of them. If he could even become an average blocker, then he could take over as the NFL's top guy some day. I just don't know if I like his ability to play through contact at the line of scrimmage. Yes, he does well on contested catches, but hit him at the line or get in his face, and he kind of shuts down a little bit. Still, he's worth the gamble.

There’s a few TEs in the league that aren’t really used inline - I’m not sure that’s the knock it once was. But bear in mind I’ve yet to watch him yet. I’ve been waiting for the combine to help focus my scouting.

Ehhh, he doesn't IMO

Engram had a faster 40 and way less a vertical

Both don't block but Gesicki has more athleticism and size

I compare him to Jimmy Graham who had a near identical 40 and similar vertical jump

Disagree on this.

Engram is every bit as athletic as Gesicki & was a much better blocker. He routinely blocked at Ole Miss, including some DLinemen.
You'll still see him stalk block in the NFL. He also can make circus catches & has great body control & very good hops.

Since we could have a need at both rb and TE I say we look at this years Swiss Army knife jaylen samuels.

If you check the high school SPARQ numbers, he actually might hit those numbers. He's really, really athletic. I just wish he could get off blocks. He's a tough edge setter, but if I didn't know his testing numbers, I would think he was a limited athlete (except for watching him in the open field). He just sort of sticks to blockers. Technique can be learned, though. My biggest concern is actually his knee. There are rumors he has a degenerative knee issue that may end his career early.

Very true. Knees are a major issue. W/out em hes a 1st rd'r no doubt. Would be a great rotation piece by years end though.

I said gesicki would have a ridiculous combine and i was right. Could he be another Greg Olsen?

Goedert not running was dissapointing. I still feel Andrews's the best tight end in this class.

Stevie Wonder saw Gesicki's combine coming lol.

He's a really good kid, too. I posted a biopic on him recently. I'm rooting for him, although I highly doubt we'd go WR in the first round, and he's probably not going to make it to the second due to his size, production, and testing.

Cool I’ll check it out. In another world where we aren’t deep at WR & don’t lack defensive talent I could see him being BB’s first rd 1 WR selection. Unique player.

I thought tight end hurst would run closer to 4.5.

Not saying 4.7 is bad, but I expected better.

He's become my favourite QB in the entire draft over the past month or so. Love him.

I love how light on his feet in the pocket he is and his smooth throwing motion. He was getting positive reviews from yesterday too. Having said that, Evan Lazar on Twitter did a gif breakdown on Lauletta yesterday and deep ball excepted, I got back into him too. Two good options for us there.

Start with this one

Not a lot of Dylan Cantrell on YouTube but he’s a tremendous blocker, doesn’t drop the ball, is 6’3” and is a 97% percentile tester. I don’t see a lot of need for a WR but there’s definite potential value there. And he has the one thing our WR corps lacks - height. A better 40 time would be nice but even there, he might have been hosed

1.68 10 yard split for Taven Bryan. that's top notch.

4.91 forty and 1.67 split for Payne.

According to teams, Leighton Vander Esch has been crushing interviews and continues to impress people. After weighing in at 256 pounds and completing 20 reps on the bench, the Boise State linebacker is hoping to run under 4.7 in the 40-yard dash. Truth be told, anything at or below 4.75 would be a great time. I’ve been told the Green Bay Packers are very high on Vander Esch and that he won’t get past the Pittsburgh Steelers in Round 1.

Another linebacker to watch on Sunday is Christian Sam. An athletic defender who struggled with injuries, Sam is presently rated as a late-rounder but could jump into the middle rounds with a good workout. I’m told the redshirt junior, who tipped the scales at 244 pounds and completed 28 reps on the bench, could get below 4.7 in the 40. The Detroit Lions, Houston Texans and New England Patriots top the list of teams interested in Sam.

Combine Notes: Day 5 | Draft Analyst

Between the way he entered the building, the hands signs, the clunker first run and good second run and even the bed head Tavin Bryan looks like he isn't taking all this seriously enough. Which is kind of a bummer, since I was pretty high on him.
