Hopes and Dreams :2018 Draft

How come we have an extra third?!

Because we should have been able to get SF's 2nd and 3rd round picks for Jimmy G if Bill Belichick wasn't trying to screw Robert Kraft after being told to trade Jimmy and not Brady!!! Bill Belicheck the GM is ruining Bill Belichick the head coach!

Runs from thread..... :)

Highly enamored by Evans. Imo this team hasnt drafted a good coverage LB since Mayo. If he's there I'd love that pick to death. Pair this guy with Hightower, hopeful Rivers and Van Noy and half your front 7 is on its way to recovery.

Reid at safety seems like a safe pick. A BB pick. Stanford guy with more athletism in his pinky than J-r-an R-c-ar-s. Good future replacement for Chung. Maybe even McCourty. Might be able to get him with SF pick if he drops.

DT, just give us a body who can collapse the interior. There's a few of them and I'm on board with anyone that can do just that.

CB's are tricky picks when you get past the middle of the 1st round. Yep, you can hit, but you can miss badly. I'd rather them do their home work and throw darts in the 3rd-5th rounds. Shermans and Samuels dont grow on trees but if you scout enough you can get lucky.

I would Love to see the Pats draft Quin Blanding from UVA. Quin is a family friend and is a very humble super kid. Hes was a tackling machine during his 4 years at UVA. More suited to SS and could fill Chungs spot. I am really rooting for this kid to make it right now i think hes projected some where in the late 3rd round.

it's the 'it's Friday and I'm coming down with the flu draft'

I kept missing on what I wanted so I traded down a bunch of times and wound up with my high score for the year....if it works out this way, we don't need no stinkin free agents this year (bring back solder)...perfect score for day 3

Nice effort. Zero issues with the players, but I can't imagine Settle would be available that late. From what I've heard, he's likely to absolutely blow up the Combine. He's also not even 21 until the season starts, I believe, so he's got a ton of growth potential. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up making a late push for 1st round once people realize his upside.

Is the Lamar Jackson Patriots buzz a real thing?

Really don't want a QB taken by NE this year but Lamar Jackson is the most mature QB prospect available it seems with freak running ability and smarts, definitely be interesting (Decent passer too, has to improve)

I can certainly see that B.B. (maybe McDaniels too) will like the upside and it’s not like he’ll be a starter for three years at least. I had written off Jackson previously, but the more I think about it, the more I can see it. I can see McDaniels doing stuff with him.

I wouldn’t want Jackson at 31 but I could live with the pick in the 2nd round (just about).

As can I, his vision and run ability can really be electric

Truly, his only flaw is his lighter frame and accuracy

The lighter frame isn’t an issue because we wouldn’t be expecting much for three years, the question would be whether he can fix his accuracy. He does throw some lovely balls at times

Absolutely, strong arm as anyone but inconsistencies with accuracy

Wouldn’t drafting him at 1 be ideal though, to try to time it with Nrady’s retirement? Fifth year option and all?

I thought about the 5th year option but I’m not really ready too use our fist pick on someone that won’t start for nearly half a decade. I suppose it depends on what happens in FA. If they ge a Sherman/Talib and a Preston Brown and another FA starter/important player (Trey Burton anyone...or Vaccaro) then I’d be happier using a first on Jackson.

Defense - my hopes for this draft are lots of defensive players.

I think we cut several players to free up a good bit of cap space. I hope we resign solder. At that point the offense is set except for some running backs.

I hope bb trades #31 for a second and third. And hopefully he can flip that third for a fourth and a fifth.

Needs (no particular order)

Cb (Hughes UCF)
Giant dt (Thompson of Georgia)
3rd down pass rusher (landry of bc)
olb/ilb (burks of vandy )
De (“the duke” of wake forest)
Safety (Reid of Stanford)
Rb (Samuels of N.C. state)
Qb (woodside of Toledo)

Re: Jackson, I've heard two things in the last couple of days that, if true, would concern me:

"No worries on the 40," one head coach said. "He'll get it at pro day. Interviewed him. He's got something special about him … Build your offense around him. Leader."

Do the Patriots really want to do that? More specifically, do they want a player who apparently needs a significantly different system than the one Brady uses?
