Terrelle Pryor is supposedly being released. Doug Martin has been informed of his release. IMHO, the more RBs that are released, the better the chance of bringing Lewis back.

I wouldn't mind seeing Pryor here either.. He gives the Pats that "tall" receiver on the outside. But, I can only see him if they lose Amendola during FA..
No ty to Pryor. He was terrible in DC and gives minimal effort on catches. Also dropped the ball a lot.

Only a 4th-round comp pick for Sheard, according to overthecap:

Projecting The 2018 Compensatory Picks | Over the Cap

IIRC, the Pats lost the one they would've gotten for Bennett via some arcane rule mumbo-jumbo.
So, 6 picks as it stands right now, plus the hopeful return and progression of two 3rd rounders from last year’s rookie class in Rivers and Garcia.

I’m still half-expecting an additional pick via trade down somewhere along the line, but even if it doesn’t happen, I think we’re in a decent enough position with draft capital, having 4 top 100 picks.

The main difference this year is that it’s the first time in awhile that I’m not talking about the lack of available roster spots and how rookies wouldn’t be getting much playing time. For the first time in years it feels like we need all of those picks.

Didn't Pryor sign just a one-year contract anyway?
At this juncture, I'd like to see what Britt can do with a full off-season under him, though I do agree that we still need a Big WR who can make contested catches.

Not that I've found. His 2017 deal with the Skins was for 1-year, signed last March ($6M guaranteed).

The big WR who can make contested catches is Gronk.

He doesn’t know how to run WR routes. This is a complicated offense for a WR where he has to make decisions based on the defense. Pass on him.

We looked at and almost signed Pryor before.
Receivers I'd look at Pryor Landry but I think we should get Brady Allen Robinson.
I wanted him in the draft.

No.. Pryor is a FA..

Could you provide the dropped ball stats for him?

Jerrell Freeman - Unsigned Free Agent - 2018 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

Bears released ILB Jerrell Freeman.

“This fully expected move will save Chicago $3.5 million against the cap. Freeman played well his first season with the Bears, but he missed four games because of a PED suspension and picked up another 10-game ban last year, the final two games of which he will have to serve in 2018. He is also set to turn 32 in May and is coming off a torn pectoral. Even so, Freeman is good enough to get a look from teams in need of linebacker help.”

Landry, Robinson, the return of Moss, Calvin Johnson coming out of retirement.

We have lots of possibilities. I wouldn’t rule out a draft day trade for Julio Jones.

Nah, I think Antonio Brown would be more feasible :D.

I dont see how Pryor or Amendola have any connection to each other.

Pryor would be someone who competes with MM and Britt for that tall spot. Dola is our safety net for Edelman not being back at the same level he was before the ACL. I know some people have hopes for McCarron to maybe be the heir for the slot position but going into camp without a relatively cheap backup option like Dola seems short sighted. If Dola walks I would assume other transactions to follow and not Pryor.

It is funny how not making that one necessary play to win the SB can paint the offseason under such different light.

Honestly, I think we are in a slightly better situation than a year ago. The LB depth didnt change much but with Rivers and Wise there is some potential on the DL brewing. We now know for certain that Branch is a goner and dont have to do that weird dance about how if he returns at the same level we will be fine. Hightower will actually have a real offseason/preseason without injury which might help him to stay on the field instead of always catching up.

Unless Gronk retires we pretty much bring the very same offense back with Cooks and Dorsett getting a(nother) full offseason to work with Brady. I am sure that at least one of Lewis/Burkhead will be back so there will be also continuity among the RBs.

The big question mark and most probably also one of the first major pieces to fall will be Solder. But even if he leaves I am not sure that the draft would be the place to get a replacement for him anyway.

I am not trying to say you are wrong but just want to point out that I dont see a big difference between where we were standing last year before FA opened after the SB win (rose-tinted glasses and so on) and where we are this year after that painful loss.

Terrelle Pryor runs bad routes and drops a lot of footballs, that sounds like a disaster signing will be in Bradys dog house by the end of camp.

Saw that.

Might not even be as good as Roberts and doesn't play special teams at all. Not sure I even see a spot for him on the 90-man.

I should've been more clear when I asked if Pryor had signed only a one-year contract last off-season, thereby making him a free agent this off-season. Sorry.

Regarding the need for a Big WR, Gronkowski's a TE. And what's precluding us from having more than one Big Target anyway?

Has nothing to do with failing to make a play (although giving up 41 was surely an area that needs to be looked at), and much more to do with having a lousy draft class last year. If you want to take it further, losing out on guys like Easley, not seeing Cyrus develop, having a first round pick stolen etc seems to be catching up a bit.

In most years I always talk about what a luxury the draft is and how there are few open spots. This year is obviously different. We could debate the specific positions, but so far I would consider QB, OT, RB, TE, DT, LB, CB, and S to all be areas that could potentially be addressed, and where rookies could stick. It’s a night and day difference than most years, particularly recently, where one could argue that roster spots were so limited that we didn’t even need many picks—which was exactly the argument made by optimistic posters last spring.
