Jimmy G reportedly gets his deal:

Holy crap on a cracker.

Brady has started more Superbowls than Jimmy has started games...

Good news is: If Denver's hunting for Cousins or Rodgers or even Foles, they'll have to shed a ton of talent. Same for the AFC East teams.

I don’t want jimmy. He’s not durable.he is good but this is more money than brady, Amendola, Edelman and Lewis combined. That’s just not smart

"Tom Brady's Backup" should be a position and career title in and of itself, like "Running Back". It's obscene the amount of money teams will throw at unproven guys who have that Brady-proximity-perfume on them, as if Tom's greatness can be achieved by nearness to him somehow. Matt Cassel, Ryan Mallet, Brian Hoyer and now Jimmy gets his turn.

$27.5 million average per year. Holy cow that's a lot of money.

For a guy with 7 starts......Total value roughly $20 million/start.....

it's probably going to be a hugely front loaded deal since they are over 100M under the cap currently .........
Belichick must have really liked him to send him there.

wow the cap on that team is screwed.
Not necessarily. The 49ers team is quite young and is built from the draft. They can probably afford a few expensive stars around the rookie deals that they'll have. By the time all these supporting players get expensive they'll have had time for at least a handful of playoff runs

Wow... Lynch is building something that could be awesome there.
When he swung those draft day trades, I said the same thing and got roasted for it.. One year in, he looks like he is on his way to building a contender there ......

Can he play cornerback?

wow the cap on that team is screwed.
I don't think so.
The niners were building around young players and pretty much "getting their money's worth" out of the players they had...i.e., they weren't paying them that much. I'm pretty sure they had a lot of cap room and that they will front load his contract...all the better for Jimmy.

Feels like this just put the screws to the Pats in a way. If JG gets this can you imagine what a guy like Wentz will get with his body of work in a couple years?

Pats better draft a good one soon cause they aren't finding one worth the $ in free agency.

He's starting quarterback of a team that all of a sudden found its identity with him under center. He was GOING to get paid

So clearly we wouldn't keep him, but damn......how the hell did we not get more than a 2nd?
All depends on how the niners felt about JG before the deal...and on what Belichick said to them about him. Remember, none of us really know how the deal went down, what role Kraft played and where BB's head was when he was talking to SF.

San Fran might have felt they had the information they needed and knew they were going to make him an offer as an FA that no one else would want to match anyway. So, on that scenario, the pick was just for an insurance policy to get him in the fold and they felt they could sit back and not give away a First.

With there cap room its not a lot. 49ers can become legit again.
Yeah. I guess the moral of the story is that if you're going to suck for a couple of years, you might as well pick up a few young guys in the Draft, drain your veteran roster way down and rebuild around "the guy" from the bottom.
The delay in finalizing the deal might be in working out the terms of the Insurance Policy that San Fran is buying in the event of injury or other unforeseen events.

Yeah, it really does reset the market, doesn't it.

I wonder how much Johnny Foxborough wants.

so will the 49ers have any money left to build a team around him?

Good for him...I hope he wins a Super Bowl after Brady retires...

Just remember guys: he’s way away from us now. Would rather have gotten a little fleeced in a trade than have him stay in the AFC.
that is an interesting take... Would I trade (or not get a one or even two ones), to keep a "GOAT-like franchise QB" ( MASSIVE "IF").. out of my division and/or conference. If he is great enough it would be worth taking less to get him far away. Even smart..

I don't know if he needs to justify that deal with a Lombardi. Look at Matthew Stafford. The guy will probably never win anything. Tom Brady, now 40, has earned $196 million over 17 NFL seasons. If Matthew Stafford plays out his contract, he will have earned $262.5 million in the NFL by age 35—with another potential major extension ahead.
need to adjust for inflation but yeah
