Content Post Dear Bill - Thanks for Giving Away the Super Bowl.

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

Somebody probably brought this up, but if Jonathan Jones doesn’t get hurt in garbage time vs. the Titans BB can still bench Butler & we may win the game:

  • Jones mans the slot at an average/above average level based on his play this year. He managed to cover Landry & not get torn up.
  • Chung stays primarily on Ertz.
  • Maybe they don’t run that dime nonsense with Richards.
Football is frustrating, dang.

I don't even know WTF you are talking about with this. I am PO'd at BB's ridiculous coaching decisions on Sunday, and therefore I want Mike Tomlin? Whatever.

And my day is complete as Quantum has added all his little red X's to my posts.

I am not going to change your minds that BB never gets it wrong, and never says anything misleading to cover up for his real reasons for benching one of his best players on a defense that until this game was playing great. You can defend him all you want, but to me he screwed up big time by messing with the chemistry of his team (at kickoff no less) and refusing to fix it, even though he could have. He shouldn't have done that to the rest of the team, the coaches or the fans. If you are okay with it then good for you. I am not okay with it and I never will be.

Butler said the coaches lost faith in him. Since when is a loss of faith and trust on the people who lost the faith and trust?

You are criticizing him while admitting you don’t know the facts.
It’s insanity to judge a decision without facts.

-fact Patriots didn't play Butler
-Butler played 97 defensive snaps this year.
-fact Butler dressed and wasn't told he would not play until before the national anthem
fact Rowe wasn't told he was starting until after the national anthem.
-fact defense couldn't get a stop
-fact the Eagles converted nearly all their third downs targeting Bademosi, Richards, and Rowe
-fact Malcolm Butler was on the sideline
-fact despite a horrible performance in the secondary, Butler was never called on for any defensive snaps at any point in the game.
-fact even before the strip sack the offense was put in a position where they needed to score 40 points to win the game.
-fact the Patriots became the first team in NFL history to have more than 600 yards on offense and still lose the game.

We have enough facts. The only question that remain are

1. What was Belichick's exact reasoning for not playing Butler?
2. Why was it good enough to not play him, but not good enough to not dress him?
3. Why didn't Belichick in the face of a terrible defensive performance turn to a player who played 97% of defensive snaps and was one of his best corners evidence with the Super Bowl on the line.

We know the decision and we know the effect of the decision. The only thing we are waiting on is if the reason for the decision was good enough to lose the Super Bowl.

No one is saying “fire Bill.”but no one is saying get rid of the guy. .

Oh yes they are. I had two this morning.

But this “BB has won 5 super bowls so let’s not criticize him” stuff is getting old. Do people criticize Brady for throwing an INT in big games despite winning 5 super bowls? Absolutely, but no one is saying get rid of the guy.

I have no problem criticizing Bill. You can say the gameplan sucked and he didn't do the right things with personnel in acquiring more pass rushers and impact players at LB. I am all in on that and I said that on Saturday.

But what I will challenge those fans that are all ra-ra about "The Patriot Way" and "Do Your Job" and say the believe in what this dynasty is built on and then once a star player tests that winning culture and the programmatic way this team goes about its business and then say its OK for BB to let an unprepared player play in the biggest game of the year just this once.

It doesn't work that way.

It’s clear as day if you saw the broadcast. I saw Butler warming up on the field before the game and looked fine. Then I see him during the National Anthem and he’s crying. It’s not difficult to deduce that he was told of his playing status right before the Anthem.
You are assuming a lot. So you think he would have spent 2 hours crying? It came out at thr anthem when he realized how bad he f-Ed up. That could have happened if he knew for a week.
You are making a guess and calling it a fact which is why this thread is a crapfest.

People aren’t overreacting about this at all, Patsfan2 just called Belichick “ Hitler.”

Stuff like this is why I’m taking bills side here. I don’t think he’s hitler but it’s not a democracy. You won’t win a damn thing running the team the way people want it ran. They want sunshine all the time even when you got a crybaby corner who’s been mad all year about gilmore

Except those who are putting this on Butler have already said that Belichick and his defensive coaches did a bad job Sunday night. The difference is that we are holding Butler responsible for blowing the trust of his coaches, instead of blaming Belichick for Butler’s attitudes and actions.

And then there’s always Patsfan2, who just called Belichick “ Hitler.”

Without fans there is no team for Belichick to coach and make millions of dollars. Don’t sit here and talk about what’s convenient like Belichick has done so much for us and it is wrong for us to be upset or question his decisions. Belichick might have done his job well in previous years but he didn’t do it well on Sunday night. If it was my decision I would fire him. He hurt an entire fan base, 62 other players, and a coaching staff all so he could stick it to one 25 year old guy who wanted to play so badly he was in tears before the game. Belichick deserves to be fired and if you feel otherwise you’re a nostalgic sucker.
Eh Belichick still gives us the best shot moving forward. Who would you hire in his place?

You are listing things that happened in the game which has absolutely nothing to do with the decision that was made before the game.

If you think the appropriate analysis is to ignore why thedecision was made and judge it by the result then it’s no wonder you don’t get it.

It doesn't work that way.

You are correct

1. Run Butler in a couple packages on a few 3 or 4 plays in a defensive series and evaluate whether it works after that. Probably at the start of the second half. You have up 22 points by that point.

Based on what? You have this belief BB thought there was a chance Malcolm could help them win.

You can create all the scenarios all you want but based on multiple factors, BB did not trust or have confidence in Malcolm helping the team and his program on any level.

2. That's not remotely how it works. A fire extinguisher doesn't damage the foundation of the house. Butler going in for a couple plays isn't going to screw up the whole defense worse that it already was.

No ****. Im playing with your analogy.

What if the fire extinguisher was filled with muriatic acid and started the process of melting the foundation?

I'm not blaming BB for Butler's attitude and actions. I am blaming BB for his lousy coaching decisions that cost my team the Super Bowl. And it took a long time in this thread, if they have even done it at all, for those putting it on Butler to say BB and his defensive coaches did a bad job on Sunday night, yourself included.

bagging the guy is just stupid talk......total nonsense

he's batting .000 in playoff games where he benches players

wiped out all my losses for the last week in 1 day today....up 8%

and it's all tech so no......can't blame NASDAQ
Yea I was bottom feeding this morning. I'm posting and on E-Trade all day.

Wrong.

The genesis of the matter is Malcolm completely f-ed up which compromized the entire defensive game plan.

If he did his job leading up to the game none of this would have happened.

Coaches decide who plays and doesn't play based on the game plan, performance, talent and attitude.

Players put themselves in a position to play based on the game plan, performance, talent and attitude.

Only if the player makes himself eligible.
If he wasn't eligible he shouldn't have dressed. If it was that bad he shouldn't have dressed. If whatever he did was s

The why matters. It's just your being completely disingenuous saying discussion is futile and that we lack facts.

We have an abundance of facts about what happened, the effect of it on the team, and the outcome of the game.

There's one question left is whether Butler did something so bad that Belichick was completely justified not playing him and sabotaging his teams chances of winning or even attempting to play him when the defense was getting hosed and there was nothing to lose.

And even if it's something completely justified like he hit a women or fought a coach, or got caught doing some hard drugs.... you still have to answer for why he even dressed.

Butler said the coaches lost faith in him. Since when is a loss of faith and trust on the people who lost the faith and trust?
Since it's the Super Bowl and you messed up your whole defense, and did nothing to fix it when it became patently obvious.
