If the Patriots win...

I do think people are coming around to the fact that they are witnessing history, and a lot of people are starting to appreciate just how amazing it is.

What's weird is why wasn't there such hate for Jordan and the Bulls, or 49ers and Young/Montana? They were both sort of beloved and respected, but dominant, franchises. I do think it has something to do with the BS narrative the NFL has pushed about cheating (Ratgina is a piece of ****). I also think Belichick and Brady are not charismatic and likeable the way that Jordan and Young/Montana were. Belichick is obviously a curmudgeon. I don't quite get the hatred for Brady frankly, even before deflategate it was there. He sort of was seen as a pretty boy: I think people didn't appreciate his talent, just how good he was, until round two of his SB party. That's one reason I see the next SB as so important. Keep building that legacy and shutting up the a-holes who write for South Park.

So, to answer the original question, I actually think that the haters' burgeoning respect will continue to bloom if we win the next one, even if they keep talking trash.

The Bulls never had the hate the pats generate but there were people who desperately hated them but there was no Twitter. Detroit, l.a and New York all hate the bulls. Basketball hate is not as intense because the game is not real emotionally charged to fans

Rivalries have definitely been less intense. LA v Boston used to be crazy in the Bird/Johnson days.

...and there was a period in the early/mid 80s in which the Sixers/Celtics was VERY intense.

I remember a game when from the stands Red stormed the court and got in Moses Malone's face. Then their coach Billy Cunningham got into it and tore his sports jacket.

Pats are by far the most hated dynasty ever. Why?
  • First dynasty around with Social Media (Yanks in the 50's may have been equally hated but no one could express it)
  • Longest dynasty (most prior dynasties were gone after 6 or 7 years)
  • First dynasty with television/news being fully agenda based - "why wait for a good story when you can just make one up?"
  • Cheating allegations - goes to agenda based media but the brand of propaganda perpetuated on the public was extremely effective despite obvious holes in logic for anyone looking
  • The Pats have beaten down so many different teams that the hatred is spread out to all sections of the country
  • Approaching/surpassing other all time player/coach and team records or accolades (SF revere Montana, GB has Lombardi and Dallas/Pitt had most Super Bowl winning records)

Nope.

Browns in the 50's.
Packers in the 60's.
Steelers in the 70's.
Miners in the 80's.
CowBoys in the 90's.

I admired and enjoyed every one of those teams. Still do!!

Here's the updated list:

Browns in the 50's.
Packers in the 60's.
Steelers in the 70's.
Miners in the 80's.
CowBoys in the 90's.
Patriots in the 00's.
Patriots in the 10's.

Does the 2017 level of national hate for this team exceed the previously high 2007 level?

Since the hater is always more disturbed than the hated I certainly hope so.
At one point it bothered me that people hated the Pats but now when I think back to freezing my ass off on those aluminum bleachers and being mocked for being a fan of the 1-15 Patsies I realize I've more than come to terms with the team I love being despised and the best revenge is living well. And Pats fans in this century have lived very, very well.

Browns don't count, winning NFL championship is like winning conference title, no AFC vs NFC, our 10 conference titles would be considered official championships pre merger

Yep. The only teams with an opportunity to claiming 2010s is GB, NYG, SEA, DEN and BAL and they would need to win the next two Super Bowls.

Ain't happening.

It wouldn’t be hate anymore. It’s like futuristic sci-fi dysutopian society whereby all human spirits have been broken by an all-powerful ruling elite, resistance is a cynical concept, and most have gone insane from all of their trauma. There are only a few scattered underground rebels soon to be crushed (most of them are Twitter/PFT trolls.). Also, Rob Parker is Tom Brady’s landscaper. All Steelers fans pay a royal tax to King Bill for protection and mercy.

Browns count, bubby. There was no AFC in the 50's. o_O Not that that matters: The NFL Champion was the world Champion until the Super Bowl Era.

I should also give a shout out to the Lions when mentioning the 50's, by the way, as they won as many World Championships. The Browns were the team, though.

I'm down in Atlanta Falcon territory and it's been pretty mellow down here both in the public with my Pats gear on and on the radio waves. Mostly not the Pats again type stuff.

Yeah, after living in both Atlanta suburbs (Kennesaw) and Warner-Robins GA their apathy can be summed up pretty simply with two words: college football.

They don't care about hating the Pats and the Falcon "love" is mostly let's say just a passing interest.

I'd also guess for many the hate is saved for Saban.

I remember that, I also remember Robert Parish going to the bulls late in his career. He didn’t like Jordan or pippen and certainly not Rodman. He used to yell in Jordan’s face at times lol

The days when mchale, bird, parish played, they beat the bulls with a young Jordan there who could score 63 and still not win

AMEN!

I enjoy, even embrace the hate. Living in Philly near NJ, I am a lone outpost of sanity and civility in a sea of trash. For a fanbase of a team that has never won anything post merger, they talk a great deal of smack....
I proudly wear Patriots t-shirts, sweatshirts and jerseys amid the glares and snipes......
My car has a Pats license plate and Flying Elvis logo.
I ask them where they keep the Lombardi trophies at the Linc...Oh wait.... They celebrated a conference championship as if they had won the Super Bowl, because it was their Super Bowl. If heaven forbid they should win, it would be obnoxious to live there, and I have been transplanted here for 32 plus years.
It is jealousy, pure and simple and nothing will change it.... As they say, "F'em if they can't take a joke"...........

Thats 15 yards for Taunting....

I think the hate is just the result of the internet age, snowflake age, and Goodell. Before Goodell, spygate and deflate-gate would never have happened. Football was football and saying 'they cheat!' was never an excuse men-with-testicles would use. The commissioners weren't in the business of following to the media to meddle and create controversies. But now Goodell has forever changed that and it's not only acceptable to be accusing everyone of everything, but it's trendy. Which leads to the snowflake problem.

Everyone wants a trophy, but now everyone feels they deserve a trophy. Sure in the past there's been hate and 'fatigue' over other teams winning, but never did you hear people saying they should 'let other teams win for a change', like it's somehow unfair that other teams don't all get their own trophies. Everyone now is just a whiny little turd. What's really puke-inducing is seeing some of the older generations jump on the wagon.

Finally the internet age just amplifies everything and technology has made it easier to get caught up on the most minuscule of details, what is/isn't a catch or fumble now. Fans can watch frame by frame and grasp at anything to create their own narrative. "if you look at frame 21 from camera 10... blah blah blah, see Bad! call. The refs won them the game!". There wasn't an opportunity for this stupidity 20 years ago.

Especially after the National Championship game. Ouch. Both the Dogs and the Falcons lost in OT.
