For the All-22 crowd once footage is available...

How did Jax primarily defend Amendola after Gronk went out? My initial take is their gameplan focused on Gronk and once he left, they played more conventional D which the Pats exploited. Not sure if film supports this.

Regards,
Chris

Solder - another positive development in the last part of the season coming to very solid playoff form . Thuney bounced back too . blind side doing good things for Tommy

plus expect more of this in SB w Burkhead hopefully ready to play more

Spot on insights from Lazar on exactly how the Jags ran out of steam in the 2nd half where a lot of people thought they were starting to play conservative, but in fact they had emptied out their playbook and became a lot more predictable.

Just another testament as to why the Patriots are so hard to beat- they can throw an infinite combination of personnel/plays/alignment at you all game long. And I think that's one reason why we always seem to start off so slow- we know we'll eventually hit on the right combination.

And here some of the things to watch/improve Feb 4

Rowe made some plays but for the most part he was liability through the middle. I thought JJ was a bit better + has speed to close. They obviously played Rowe over JJ when he was healthy and nothing much to do now. One thing to watch closely is who/how he matches up vs PHI that know him well..

Communication improved a lot since week 1 of course . some clean up still to do

yep . Romo called it at halftime ..

One of the key adjustments that Patricia did in the 2nd half that finally bogged down the Jags offense was to go to a 33 bear front when Jags became conservative. This meant that Fournette was running into a wall in every gap he tried to hit.

clement as well

or this

lots of work till SB . always good there's a lot on film

One of the things I'm eagerly anticipating is that BB is going to take a page from Saban's philosophy as far as defending RPO, and make the option a dummy read, so when Foles tries to use the dummy to dictate what option of the RPO he'll commit to, he'll hesitate (because the dummy does nothing) or inadvertently turns himself into a runner.

I remember before the Pats/Hawks Super Bowl Greg Cosell was on a Super Bowl Preview Podcast where he spoke very presciently about playing Seattle's read option package. He outlined the defensive choice of having the edge defender commit to the runner up the gut and having other people chase the QB, or having the edge defender defend the perimeter to prompt the handoff up the middle. He predicted that Belichick would opt to do the latter, to force the handoff up the middle, which was what happened. Marshawn Lynch was fairly controlled that game being funneled into a Bear front, and Russell Wilson had only one notable run on a QB scramble, not a designed run.

For Philly, Belichick may search for a way for the defense to dictate one or the other options in a RPO, so that it becomes more predictable. If you can line up in a way that dictates run all the time, you can funnel run help into predictable spots and live with the results.

KVN . amazing how he grew in Foxboro . and after some rusty moments first two games he came back . he looks on the top of his game again

But Tony Massarotti told me van noy and all the Pats lb suck suck suck!

You're right, that makes more sense. Make things more predictable- use the read as funnel and just commit to the RB every single time, so either Foles has to either run or throw.

I agree with you that Rowe was a liability not only in pass coverage, but he also had some tackling issues on a play or two. That said, which one of Philly’s receivers “knows him well,” considering that Jeffrey and Smith weren’t even there and Agolor was only a rookie? To take it one step further, Rowe wasn’t even a top 4 CB at Philly, which is likely why he was traded. He was only there for one rookie season in ‘15.

In this case, I don’t believe that there’s an advantage for either team in regards to Eric Rowe and his previous knowledge. Maybe he and Agolor had some battles in TC before he left.
