We're On To The Eagles

It'll be the toughest SB matchup of the last three too. Most complete team they'v faced in years. Very difficult matchup.

Couldn’t disagree more. Seattle was the toughest team they have ever faced in a Super Bowl. If the Eagles can beat the Patriots with a back up QB then they more than deserve the win, no matter how it goes down.

With total crap reasoning like the pats defense is bad ranked 29th in yards. Who gives a crap about yards and have you watched a game lately? In the only stat that matters points allowed they have been among the leagues best for months now. Brady doesn't like pressure so the eagles d line will have to have a good game. Really? No **** Sherlock? The eagles d has created a lot of turnovers nearly 2 a game. That's great they are going up against the team who turns the ball over least in the league. Just a shoddy article full of pom pom waving

There are many fans in this forum who routinely claim that yards against is the most important defensive number. They are as dumb as it gets but they still use it to cry about thePatriots defense on a regular basis. One of them, Hail Hydra was doing it just last week.

The Pats have never had an easy Super Bowl. The last Eagles game might be the only thing anybody would consider an easy Pats win. This game will be close - within 3 points or less.

Cheapest ticket on SeatGeek this morning is $5k. :eek:o_O

Yeah I was considering going but I can think of a lot more I can do on a vacation this year than spend $15k (at least) on tickets and the trip for my girlfriend and I. Kudos to those that want to spend their money that way, though. To each their own.

I wonder if Chris Long or Blount will be able to help them with any info...of course we have Eric Rowe.

The Eagles strength is shutting down the run. Fourtunatly we have 3 versitile RBs. Things could set up very well for James White to perform again on the biggest stage, even if we don’t fall behind by 25

The Pats really don't need to run the ball well to win. In their last two SB victories:

- vs Sea: 21 rushes, 57 yards, 2.7 ypc
- vs Atl: 25 rushes, 104 yards, 4.2 ypc

In the Atlanta game, sure, it was ok, but nothing dominant. Seattle shut them down pretty well. And yesterday they beat a tremendous defense without running the ball well at all. Will it help for them to pick up 100+ on the ground? Absolutely. But it's not really necessary. If Brady can sling it, they should be in pretty good shape.

Yeah, I think this is probably the weakest team they've faced in a Super Bowl. Worst QB by far, offense lacks any sort of standout talent (Jeffery is, at best, a poorer man's Plaxico back in the day), and the defensive backfield is pretty shaky. That's not to say they're not a good football team but they would get beaten by the 2014 Seahawks 9/10 games and probably would have lost to this year's more or less equivalent Falcons team last week if Kyle Shanahan was on the sidelines.

That doesn't mean it won't be a difficult game.

I agree. I think it will be a tough game because the Patriots never play an easy Super Bowl, but I feel good about their chances.

Watching the highlights it appears that Foles was never making plays into tight coverage, all the big plays were wide open. I think he can make plays underneath but I don’t see the Patriots blowing coverages downfield the way the Vikings were.

So, what are Philly's weakness' I cant take 2 weeks of "Philly is unstoppable!" hand wringing. I haven't watched many games, but how did Atlanta hold them to 15 points.

They don't really have a weakness but their secondary isn't all that amazing. Their #2 CB isn't that good nor is the #3. Their safeties are pretty average. Maybe even below average.

Their LBs are good but they don't have a 3rd legit ones if they want to run a true 4-3.

That being said they have 2 very good LBs, a great DL rotation and a borderline lockdown CB. It is a lot of deal with on the offensive side of the ball.

While their defense is damn near all time good at home when not at home they don't play as well. This being a neutral site game works to the Patriots advantage.

When it comes to their offense their OL is probably the best in the NFL this year. They have a bunch of good weapons but I do think their run game is a tad bit overblown. Wentz did a lot to help it go from good to great with adding in his own runs. Under Foles they have pretty much been around a 4.0 average which is good but it won't kill you.

The key is to get pressure on Foles (easier said than done) or just defend his pass catchers well. Personally I would go light in the box on first and second and dare them to run against 6 man fronts. The Eagles will be tough but you can't be a prisoner of the last game.

I think this will be a tough one but the Patriots have spots to attack.

Isn’t Philly secondary horrible? I’m pretty sure I remember this cause of fantasy football and Gilmore will be able to erase Alston Jeffery

I think these Eagles are stronger than SB39’s Eagles. They’re also better than the NY Giants teams we lost to. However, it is a better matchup for us than those Giants teams.

On a high note, we'll probably get to see lots of replays of Donovan McNabb puking up his chunky soup the next two weeks. And somebody has to get TO's opinion on something.

In what way? The 2004 Eagles had the advantage at QB and pretty much every skill position. They were also the #2 overall defense in points allowed and #3 overall total defense. That team also played a first place schedule while this team played a 4th place schedule. The only measurable way that the '17 Iggles squad is better than the '04 Iggles squad is coaching. Peterson has done a nice job turning that team around and Schwartz has given the defense an edge and nastiness that they simply haven't had in years.

I’m sorry, but there’s absolutely no way I can convince myself that Bill Belichick is going to let Nick freakin Foles beat him in a Super Bowl.

Stuff the run like they’ve done all season and post season long, blanket Jeffery and Smith and see how Foles deals under pressure.

On offensive, I don’t see how that secondary shuts down Brady, Gronk, Amendola, Cooks, White, Lewis, Burkhead, etc, etc, etc.

If the offensive line holds up for Brady, I don’t see any other way the Eagles win this game. Philly has to hope for turnovers. If they don’t get any, it’s going to be a long day for them.

They put a lot of pressure on Brady. Let's not act like they didn't. They sacked Brady 3 times and pressured him nearly a dozen. They also hit him quite a few times..

Brady saved them from a sack at least twice..

yeah, but they weren't "SACKsonville" though, like I heard all week.

The eagles lost wentz, peters and hicks, not to mention foles has busted ribs, and they are healthier than the pats?

PAY ATTENTION...They've lost:

Hightower, Edelman, Mitchell, Cannon, Waddle, Ebner, McClellin, Valentine, Langi, Jonathan Jones and now Gronk is CURRENTLY in the concussion protocol... you know the thing that might keep players out for the year... although he hopefully should be back and I'll even include Bennett but I wasn't expecting a lot when they got him back. Plus two promising draft picks in Rivers and Garcia.

Yeah they're not as healthy as the Eagles.

It’s not the number of players on IR that matter but the inportance of the IRed player to the team. They lost their MVP QB and one of the best tackles in the game in jason peters. And patriots officials expect gronk back. I’ll take our injury situation over theirs any day of the week.

Whata bout all the Vikings fans who bought tickets to the SB after last week? If they go, they will all be rooting for us

Hey! There WILL be a home team after all!

Haven't read through this apologies if its already covered. Don't want to get ahead as I know we are on to Philadelphia, but it's my belief the Patriots just beat the 2nd best team in the playoffs (throw the record out the window, the Jags have been collecting 1st round picks for years and obviously they are good!). They came in with swag and were sent packing by the GOAT and Dola.

Having said that, at the 2004 super bowl in Jacksonville the Eagle fans outnumbered Pat's fans 2 to 1. Now 13 years later that city is even more starved for a championship. My question is how many board members are gong to make an effort to attend?

Let's Gooooo!
