Saints vs Vikings Game Discussion

Guy did not even need to tackle Diggs - just stop forward progress (just hold him) - even if he steps OOB, the clock continues to run.

You don’t even have to be a good tackler to make that play. He F’d up royally. Grabbing him and throwing him out of bounds to stop the clock would’ve been a better alternative to what he did (or didn’t do lol)

Lol I wasn't defending the play. It was embarrassing. I'm just given insight on the player.

It was awkward as hell and that's not surprising with him.

There's celebrating (which is fine) and there's self-aggrandizing grandstanding. I don't thing anyone should begrudge the kid getting caught up in a moment of joy. I didn't view what Diggs did as offensive, but it was embarrassing behavior by a professional athlete in a team sport. He stood on a bench to flex, pose and mug for the cameras and then laid down on the end zone turf for more of same. It was like that over-the-top climactic scene from Jerry Maguire.
Remember how Jim Brown, and more recently, Barry Sanders would simply hand the ball to the official? The good old days...

Anybody doing what Diggs did in the 60's would collapse and die of embarrassment before anyone could call him out.

I wouldn't say our society has "evolved"...

He must have been confused; he whiffed like I would.

Good for the Vikes. That is a thrilling finish for them. Hopefully it is the last good thing that happens to them this season.

The only thing I can think of was that the DB was worried about getting there too early and committing DPI. A valid thing to worry about. However, in that situation if you are worried about that you pull up, let the guy catch it in front of you, and then immediately tackle him.
Well, the Vikings haven't been there in a while, and the SB is in Minny, so we'll see how it goes next week...

So, the Saints went all the way nine years ago (nine years ago?!)...we beat them early this year when we were struggling so...

OK, then it's be the Vikes. Too bad for the Saints...

Fine, Saints. Wonder if they can keep it up in Philly?

Oh for goodness sakes I give up.

That's the thing about sports that I love. You can be a all pro, veteran, fringe, jag or scrub. But just a few plays here and there, even one and they are etched in stone forever.

Thompkins, Redmond, Wiggins are just a few that come to mind after reading this.

43 cost the saints their season. Inexcusable.

Agreed and even more correct as I was wrong on recalling the amount of time left - 10 seconds remained at the start of the play. That makes the Saints tighter D formation understandable. This was 43's responsibility to just make the tackle and he just completely blew it. He didn't need to break the pass up, just make the tackle on the spot.
The slo-mo replay is even worse for 43. He also takes his own teammate, #20, out of the play who was slightly more than 2 yards from the receiver and already had some momentum toward the receiver (while the receiver's momentum was more toward the sideline). #20 definitely has a chance to make tackle to at minimum force an approx. 45 FG try.

I'm bummed for you.

I was 100% pulling for them, for you.
You are the only NO fan , I think I "know".

I like NO because of Brees's values (and skills, obviously), and just all of the league BS they went thru.
I really wanted to see a NO vs Pats SB.

Sorry man
THANKS just usually D killing Brees after he won it again, we so appreciate it, means everything, that Brees stay with NO knowing they are destroying his legacy, I dont know. Brees would have 4 rings in NE, hes not Brady. I feel sorry sorry for him, when he won it, and this is the 4th time.
This is why Brees is always forgotten the NO D screws him every time
Brees vs seatle and SF and now NM was epic and he wins and then the D destroys it with a 80 yrd lost with 17 sec on the clock

In fact, that was one of the rare cases where breaking up the pass is worse than a tackle after the completion (so long as it was in-bounds).

Nope. Clock stops on out of bounds in that situation.
