Who was that last steelers moron safety who was yapping? Ryan Clark? All I remember is Brady throwing over his head like 3 times for long TD’s and getting in his face “who sucks now”? Or something along those lines. Those who don’t study history are doomed to repeat it. Should be entertaining watching Brady pick this idiot apart.

Edit: beat me to it, Anthony smith.

No Ryan Clark was the guy who razzed us after the second giants loss than “cheaters never win” or something.

Funny cause he talked like a huge Brady fanboy after the Pats last two SB wins.

I commend the entire 2011 Pats D for playing well above their ceiling, arguably the best they played all year at the right time.

Belichick said he was proud of the team despite the loss. I mean you had julian edelman playing DB. That’s how bad the secondary was.

Doug Marrone? Does Coughlin have much say in the team aside from roster building as VP of football operations? Hope he’s more hands on this week.
I personally believe Coach Coughlin is intimately involved with the team on a daily basis.

His fingerprints are all over this team.

If he isn't putting this stuff on the bulletin board himself he is having a staffer do it or Marrone.

On a side note, Pitt has said all pats fans are dumb, the zones gonna work next time
The only concern that I’d have with the zone defense jokes about PIT is that they primarily used a pretty effective man to man scheme for the game a few weeks ago, (as predicted the entire offseason and fall) and they managed to hold us to 16 points through about 56:00 minutes of the game, 19 points through about 59:00 minutes of the game, etc. I believe they used M2M about 70% of the time a few weeks ago. Having Haden replace that awful rookie should help them, too.

Of course, the mismatch with Gronk was exploited at the end so that was big. Getting back some guys like Hogan, Burkhead, etc would help a lot. The good news is that they probably tipped their hand a bit for the second matchup.

I like to think of it as personal growth, but it was probably closer to bandwagoning.

The defense in 2011 allowed Eli to go 30-40 while allowing the Giants to dominate TOP by almost a quarter of play. You’d have to be special needs to think the defense outplayed Brady that day while, a few posts earlier, whining about the time the intentional grounding took away from the offense. It makes you look like you have an axe to grind - specifically against Brady.

Yep. The 2011 Patriots defense was terrible and they were lousy in that game too. They gave up 114 yards to the 32nd ranked league worst rush offense, allowing Eli to dominate TOP as you said.

They only gave up 19 points because the Giants were a weak NFC representative themselves. Rodgers would have lit them up for 40+ easy.

Rodgers had his chance in the divisional round.

Chris

That’s true about the man coverage they used but it was a trick, they are going back to zone cover two for the playoffs lmao

They squeaked out wins before they played us. I think their luck will run out vs the jags.

Myth.

The offense severely under-performed based on their capability, to embarrassing proportions, mainly in SB 42.

To this day,I hear about how the greatest offense ever crapped itself on the biggest stage, and the fact is, they're right.

And, ALL defenses are gassed after a 4 hour game in a dome with 80 thousand people in it and heat still in the building from the halftime show. Well known.

I don't care if you're the 2011 Pats D or the 2014 Seattle D. Being gassed is why it's so important to build your team knowing it's an offensive league, where all the rules favor offenses.

If Brady avoids just 1 of the 3 main gaffes he was responsible for, the Pats D allows 13 points, the least since the 2000 Ravens.

I commend the entire 2011 Pats D for playing well above their ceiling, arguably the best they played all year at the right time.

The 2011 Patriots defense should never be mentioned in the same sentence as the 2014 Seahawks defense. And they did not play well in that game by any stretch.

The 13 points allowed is a product of facing a weak NFC rep. A serviceable defense would have shut them out or close to it.

Guarantees have always been overrated. Who cares? Why are these even newsworthy? It is so hackneyed and played out at this point because we hear them every year.

Even when Joe Namath did it... so what? A guarantee without consequences is pretty hollow. It's not like he's guaranteeing a victory or vowing to retire if he fails to deliver.

It was on THAT day, I was ashamed to be named Anthony..

Brady was not great in SB 46. Defense could have bailed him out but it didn’t.

He did not have one of his better games but he didn’t lose that game by himself either. I’ve seen a lot worse from him and they’ve won.

in fairness. Everyone had had their way with that secondary.

In fairness, the Packers SB defending D in 2011 was "ranked" behind NE and the Giants was "ranked" 27th.

I believe the Pats D also led the conference in turnovers created that year. The Andre Carter injury really hurt, no question.

As we've discussed and Matt Chatham has told us, "yards allowed" is not a very good metric to judge a defense by.

He won for 2 reasons:

1. Kurt Warner is a moron and shouldn't even be in the HOF.
2. Brady was hurt in 2008.

Pitt has never fielded that good of a D since Tomlin's worst rated passing defense of 2006 in Minny, magically got him promoted as a head coach.

Umm, unless you're not reading what I wrote correctly.

Hint: Since 2006 when Goodell came on board and the owners wanted more revenue and more ratings, and all the rules favor offenses, if you're not building a team via the QB and offense, you're not doing it right.

That's why so many teams are in cap hells right now. Ozzie Newsome forgot to extend Flacco in 2011 or 2012 because they weren't budgeting for it, which has now sent most of the league into cap hells carrying 20 mil per year mediocre or slightly above averge QBs.

My point is, BB has given Brady a wealth of weapons since 2006 (minus 2009 and 2013) and Brady is 2-2 in SBs since.

The offensive output in an offensive era, inside domes was mediocre at BEST.

Of course the Seattle D which took YEARS AND YEARS to build, with a gazillion 1st rd picks because they sucked for about 5 years, is better than the 2011 Pats D, undermanned, off a Lockout on the front end of the rebuild.

But, that's not the point I made.
