BGC 2018 NFL DRAFT/PATRIOT-TYPE THREAD

Not even gon lie. Thought of @Snooky97 ^^^^^

Guy is an animal. If he wasn’t in the same team as Smith he’d be middle of the 1st round. Guy is a freak of nature and I’d take him straight away if he’s there when we’re picking. Think he’s my favourite pass rusher. May need to work on the run contain but with B.B. this guy could be ridiculously good

Talking about Kittle & Engram gets me going on the Flex/TE spot. Very little this guy can't do. If he's there with SF'S pick I think we have to look at him.

6'4/260 comes from a very athletic family & extremely athletic background that includes, football, wakeboarding, track, ice skating, basketball, kayaking, soccer, swimming, softball, downhill skiing, wrestling, and unicycling. Played LB, WR, TE, QB in H.S. were he admitingly didn't train or prepare as well as he should have.

He can block a little bit & actually has pretty decent tech but does his damage in the rec game. He can really stretch the field down the seem and does a great job of using his body. Good body control. Huge catch radius. Just takes/rips the ball away from/over the defender. Soft hands. Can use in the short game as well bc he's so tough & has some quicks.

His potential in the weight room is still untapped imo. Notable stacked in h.s. that got away with A/A & size. Get him in a NFL program & he'll be that much stronger.

Like @reamer I think about Vea more than normal people. There's a decent 60/40 chance we could get him with a trade up of our 1st & 2nd. And still have our 49er pick.

Baker, Lamar, Darnold, Rosen, SQB, Brown, Allen, Guice, Nelson, Williams, James, Minkah will all go top 10-15.

That's obviously not including any DT, RUSH, CB, WR etc.

If Vea or Ferrell are there at 17-20 I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat for either.

Just a random draft thought

Ferrell could be special here. I think he's a more fluid, far more polished version of Chandler Jones. Chubb might be stronger and more refined right now, but I think Ferrell will be the number one edge from this class eventually. He can do it all. Heady player from the moment he hit the field. I love that he can play in space, too, if required. Perfect fit for our multiple fronts and frequently shifting responsibilities.

Agree 100% about Vea. He's got unlimited potential. Shuts down inside runs. His athleticism is unbelievable. I've seen him chase plays 80 yards downfield. And how many nose tackles also play special teams at a high level? He's a transformative talent in the right system. Vea and Valentine would destroy run blocking schemes. Brown and Butler could be freed up to rush more, while Guy would be a super solid rotational piece. I think that would be the best interior DL group in the NFL.

Have you looked at Settle? He declared unexpectedly. 6'2 #340, moves pretty well. Some plays remind me of Wilfork. I don't think he's that level of a player, but he's still pretty good. Might be a good candidate for a consolation prize. I know people want a rusher, but I'd rather add a big body to replace an aging and injured Branch.

I REALLY like Settle. Esp when he's not talked about the way he is. Big fan.

I'd trade a ton to get Vea & Ferrell here man. A ton.

The only reason I wanted more in the Jimmy trade was so we would have the ammo to take Vea, Ferrell, and Evans. I'd happily trade our entire draft for that outcome. Realistically, though, we could get Settle, Ejiofor, etc, and still have good players who could help us win. I'm just being greedy, because the potential is off the charts.

Yea I'd be extremely pumped with Settle & Duke.

I think Settle is 2 years younger than Vea? He's such a handful and will absolutely knock your QB out. Guy can move pretty well. Huge.

Haven't looked at him that closely. You think he can handle 2 gapping? I know he' huge but not sure if he was in that situation a lot?

Ehh. I think he could learn, but I don't really see any evidence of it in his game yet. He does far better when he penetrates upfield. It's not like Vea, who clearly handles double teams with aplomb -- that's partly why I like Vea so much, other than his athletic upside. He is so easy to project in our system. Settle plays patty cake too much. There are times when he plays with leverage and extends his arms, and is just unmovable, but I don't think he plays with actual 2 gap technique, since he still tends to move down the line. I don't think he's reading either side of the block. Still, he has the size and explosiveness to develop into a player one day. As you mentioned, he's young and still growing.

He's number 4:

Watch the two plays back to back at around 3:22 to see his upside. Incredibly quick for a man that big. He's intriguing, no doubt.

Obligatory highlight reel -- which, admittedly, is super impressive for a big guy:

I should also mention that on that defense, I'm a big fan of Greg Stroman, and it's easy to see the upside with Tremaine Edmunds (although he's got a lot of growing to do as a player). They're young, but the talent is there if a coach can show patience developing the players.
