Dion Lewis echoing Bell

I'll have to look into the actual stats, but I notice him getting burned off the same moves every so often as well and losing yards. Still a much better success rate than the guys who dance in the backfield for no reason.

Obviously he's not Barry Sanders, but...that's a Barry Sanders-like trait in both the good and the bad way.
Nobody dances in the backfield for no reason. That’s the point.

If you watched the Bengals-Ravens game, you'd have seen Mixon doing something very similar. Maybe it's the new wave in this copycat league.

(Obviously, the success depends on the O-Line blocking. It seems to have a lot to do with getting a double team block, which may explain why the Pats were using the spread-out three man front a lot against Pitt -- and why Bell didn't have so much success.)

Maybe he's channeling Lawrence Maroney.

I prefer when he just disappears and teleports through the mess in a speedy flash without hesitation. But if he can make the 'patience' thing work situationally and get yards then kudos to him.

He's an awesome player to watch. I think he's great.

I think the people on this thread who are mocking Laurence Maroney as someone who didn't run hard should go back and have a look at his first couple of seasons. Here, for example, are highlights from the playoff victory in 2007 against Jacksonville. No one can tell me that that wasn't the performance of a decisive, punishing running back. Maroney's problem, it seems to me, was injury (and, perhaps, temperament).

And the fact that he lost his decisiveness . . .

It's easy to call a successful play a "hesitation move" and an unsuccessful play "dancing," but isn't there actually a meaningful difference? Hesitation is supposed to be patience, waiting for an expected block to develop. Dancing is impatience (and indecisiveness) -- aimless lateral movement when no hole immediately presents itself.

No they are the same thing.

I think he lost his nerve as a runner in 2009. As you say it could be due to the shoulder injury in 2008. In 09 he did well but did a lot of dancing.

Well said.

you can tell the difference with Dion because when he realizes there is little to nothing there, he finds whatever gap, lowers his head and tries to get the 1-3 yards that are there/available and not wait for more (i.e. run out of bounds with the blocking team).

Once BB & Ernie have a discussion with the folks over at MIT and incorporate Quantum Tunneling* into Lewis's style, we're unstoppable.

* As the EE and physics folks here know, QT only works with "small scale" objects. Appropriate for diminutive Dion, no?

Look up some crazy plays by sanders on YouTube. Barry Sanders, Lewis looks more like sanders than bell

dion lewis has been amazing the last few weeks

hopefully he can stay healthy

lewis and Gronk have been 2 incredible weapons for TB12........fortunate to have them

Several weeks ago (maybe mid season) we had several posters here saying Burkhead is a better play maker than Lewis. I diddnt agree then and I think Dlew has shown himself capable of being an elite NFL weapon and ST contributor.

Anyone saying Burkhead or any other person is doing better than Lewis needs therapy. We should sympathize with them

Yeah, I was one of those who said that. I was wrong, but to be fair, Burk hasn’t been healthy lately. That said, don’t disrespect Da Burkmeister like that..

Who the F was saying that? GDT? Garrapolites? dafoe1016?

There were a bunch of posters. At the time Dlew haddnt returned to his 2015 form and Burk was playing well. But knowing what Dlew is/was capable of I knew he had it in him to be a very special player. It would also be nice to see Burk pick up where he left off also since he is an important cog as well.

Burks great too but I think Lewis is just crazy good.
