Busy morning for NFC North: Bears have parted ways with HC John Fox, Lions have parted ways with HC Jim Caldwell.
The coaching interviews will start this week with assistants on playoff teams with a first-round bye or whose seasons have ended. Mara will send out the consent forms Monday with he and Gettleman ready to hit the road. At the top of the list are Patriots coordinators Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia in a hotelin the Gillette Stadium parking lot in Foxborough — assuming they each are interested in the job..
Texans coach Bill O’Brien’s future, due to friction with GM Rick Smith, became a bit less uncertain. Smith announced after the Texans loss in Indy that he will take an extended leave of absence to help care for his wife, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Now it seems likely O’Brien will remain with the Texans. He has one year left on his contract, so he could wind up with an extension.
But if things don’t work out, the Giants will be very interested in speaking to him.
If Luck is healthy that's a great job for McDaniels.
Lowered expectations after Pagano debacles
No Grigson
Division still doesn't have a great team in it
3rd pick in each round of the draft
$85 million in cap space with the QB already locked up to a big deal for another 4 years
Most of the players on bad contracts from the Grigson days are gone and there's a full rebuild going on.
Plus Bill is making trades with the Colts so clearly he believes deflategate was purely a Grigson thing not a Colts thing.
Dolts a great job? That owner? He's a slime. If Luck is healthy that's a great job for McDaniels.

The Lions have asked for permission to interview Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel for their newly vacant head coaching position.
Sources: Jon Gruden interested in hiring Jets OC John Morton to be on his Raiders staff. NYJ will let Morton go if he wants. Story: http://nydn.us/2lADBtV
..."Listen, [the Raiders] will go through the process this week," he continued. "They have to comply with the Rooney Rule, they have to meet other candidates, and the general manager Reggie McKenzie will talk to other coaching candidates. But I think that's done as a safeguard in the event that Jon Gruden changes his mind because he's been so tough to pin down over the years. ... But again, all signs point to him being the Raiders coach....
...Schefter speculates that Gruden will officially be announced as the Raiders' new head coach in "about a week."
The Enquirer has learned that the #Bengals and Marvin Lewis will take a bit of time before reaching a decision on his future with the club.
Yes, Marvin communicated to his staff today it could be a day or a few before everything shakes out.
Bengals' DC Paul Guenther, whose contract is now up, is an enviable position: he is expected to be a leading candidate to become Jon Gruden's DC in Oakland or could be HC candidate in Cincinnati depending on how the Marvin Lewis situations unfolds, per league source.
Giants now have submitted requests to interview Patriots’ DC Matt Patricia and OC Josh McDaniels for their HC job, per source. This could be Patricia’s landing spot.
Well if he accepts it this tells me Bill is planning to coach a while longer.
I'd like to see them go for fresh blood.
Detroit is smart if they get Patricia they want him to keep Cooter as OC.
If I'm Bill I might look at Bill Lazor.
The #Raiders are confident Jon Gruden will say yes eventually, though he is being careful about doing so before they comply with the Rooney Rule and he is still on the books to broadcast a game Saturday for ESPN. Gruden is already planning to call plays, hire DC Paul Guenther.
