Sportscaster **** Enberg — voice of baseball, football, tennis and more — Dead

When NBC had the AFC, it was first Curt Gowdy & Al DeRogatis, then **** Enberg & Merlin Olson.

He also covered Wimbledon, IIRC.

And who else remembers the quiz show he hosted that pitted members of one sports team vs members of another, during the non-baseball/football winter months?

Time, you are a Thief.

Edit: thanks to AQPE for remembering the name of the Sports Challenge.

He did call Wimbledon. Also called the 79 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship (Oh, just these two guys named Bird and Magic were in that one).

Al Michaels may have called the most memorable "sports moments", but Enberg was a close second.

When NBC had the AFC We'd have engberg/olsen or Don criqui and Bob trumpy...plus will McDonough as "NFL insider" when you'd actually have to listen to these "insiders" for any info pre internet.... Anyone remember the 3d and 4th nbc broadcast duo?

Used to be Marv Albert/Bob Griese, and Charlie Jones used to do the West Coast 4PM games.

We had to wait for the early 90s to get the immortal Joel Meyers/Beasley Reece duo.

If I recall, he was somewhat pro-Patriot or at least not against them.

Who can forget Beasley Reece...guy did color for every crap AFC game in the 90s!

Enberg and Olsen calling those '85 playoff games were great. Pats had a good run for a brief while in which those two called their big games. Then the bottom fell out and it was hello, Beasley Reece.

RIP

Chris

Charlie Jones was another excellent broadcaster.

I loved the game clip during that Pats @ Colts game in 1984 when Tony Franklin popped an end-of-half kickoff up in the air and short. Jones immediately knew a fair catch free kick was in play. And knew all the rules, unlike his idiot sidekick Griese and the players.

No ****. During those lean years we got Beasly Reese, Dan Jiggets and that crap linebacker I forget his name on a regular basis.

Whenever we got Criqui and Trumpy I used to barf. All time worst broadcast team and for some reason Trumpy hated the Patriots. It was obvious. I have no idea why. They sucked back then.

He always seemed so happy.
Sad to hear he died alone.

I never cared much for Enberg's style and his trademark "Oh my."

He might've over-used the Oh My! phrase, but at his sharpest he was still one of the best, and football wasn't even the sport with which he was most familiar, as he was a self-admitted balls-'n-sticks guy originally.

RIP.

The NBC announcing duo of Enberg / Olsen was top shelf. Unfortunately, we (Patriots games televised on NBC in that era) more often than not were delegated to the likes of the nasty, Patriot’s hating Bob Trumpy, and the adequate, but likeable, Paul McGuire.

A long pass to Stanley Morgan by Steve Grogan as broadcasted by Enberg was good living...in 1982.

We didn't know then that the best was yet to come.

Requiescat in pace.

Bummer. RIP

Shoulda been Shula.

LOL That is something I would say. Actually, as much as I would like to see Shula "bite it" there is something to be gained if by chance the pats could go 19-0 while he is alive.

I just want to see what Shula would say about it.
