Aaron Rodgers to IR, one week after return - just before rematch w/Vikings

Of course he wouldn't have. Now that they're out of the playoffs they're shutting him down, which seems odd -- either he's injured or he isn't. Apparently they were willing to risk further injury by playing him.
I didn't watch the game so I did not know if he reinjured it ala Romo.

He's got all kinds of metal in there. Stability isn't the best I'm sure

Right, which makes it curious that (A) they played him Sunday to begin with and (B) he likely would be playing next week had they won. Apparently he was not reinjured vs. Carolina and didn't want to go on IR.

From a McCarthy tweet quoted here: Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers placed on injured reserve; McCarthy says “he’s not happy about it” -- "It's what we felt was best for Aaron. He was sore, took a number of hits. We felt this was the best decision."

Bennett was wrong then and this doesn't change that.

If the packers were still in contention, Rodger's would be playing. As they are eliminated he's being given the rest. He was not 100% last week and it was known by everyone before the game.

Either he's injured or he's not.

By this action, the Packers either admit that Rodgers wasn't cleared to play last week (a violation), or he was placed on IR today, even though he's cleared to play (a violation).

I'm thinking a first round pick, million-dollar fine, and suspending Rodgers for four games.

Well brady might have to break the MVP curse.

Both the MVP curse and Madden curse in the same year.

Seems that once they were eliminated from playoff contention they simply didn't want to expose him to further injury. It would've been interesting if they won vs. Carolina and then he got seriously reinjured the following week.

I watched the whole game and I think he did well, but I put some nice money on the Panther$$$

Ok....so why on Earth would Rodgers say this?

Clearly he had the mentality of a healthy QB ready to run the table. So what changed in the last 24 hours? Oh I know. AN L on the scoreboard. Now all of a sudden he's on IR? I do know if the Pats/Brady did this, the allegations and libel accusations would be off the charts.

You beat me to it. I was thinking the same thing.

As far as Rodgers, I think it was dumb to let him play last week. Easily could've made it worse. It's his throwing shoulder, correct? Why take a chance with that?

This is the right move. He was far more inaccurate than ever and was clearly grimacing after many of the harder hits he took. They're out of the playoffs, so there's clearly no reason for him to be out there.

you've got one of the best quarterbacks in the league desperate to play, and one last chance to make the playoffs.

Awful hard to tell that guy no when he could save your season.

It didn't work, but if this was an injured TB12, I can see the Pats trying something like that to stave off elimination. Take a chance on a bit of Rodgers mojo saving the day, and once the math says you're out, then shut him down.

so...no more "Jumpy Punk!" playing heroboy Hercules for Discount Double Dork Nation?

how terribly disappointing for Cheesed!ck McPackerfan...

Packers couldn't plan a picnic. That F.O. has royally ****ed up the teams window.

It's the right move. I'm glad he wasn't hurt Sunday, but you have to question the medical staff that allowed him to take that risk.

I was pretty sure they'd shut Rodgers down after they lost last week's game. Their season's over. Why risk getting him re-injured or worse?

Yes they have. They should have drafted a real QB to replace their system QB Aaron Rodgers. Instead they drafted another system QB in Brett Hundley.

wtf is a system QB?

They will absolutely draft one early (1-2) this year or next.
