Can we share some love for this hybrid monster? Top 10 underrated player of the league IMO.

He was singlehandedly keeping things honest at the beginning of the game in both running and passing game. Making plays both ways all year . he really stepped up these last 2 games D was starting to fall apart..

Totally under appreciated. This defense still has some good elements along with Chung: McCourty, Trey Flowers, Harmon, Gillmore, and Rowe. Really didn't set the edge with Bell this game which really hurt them. Hopefully, when Kyle Van Noy returns, that will help.

Chung's tenure with the Pats has to be one of the strangest success stories ever, even moreso than a Malcolm Butler story. Being a well regarded player in his first few seasons before souring and being allowed to go to Philly. Then coming back as presumed training camp fodder before re-establishing himself and playing the best football of his career. It's just a weird path.

He’s had a very good season imo. The pass break up against the TE was a brilliant bit of play. I’d like to see is adddress Safety in the draft and get some understudies in place.

You got that right. Absolutely bizarre.

I remember when Otis Smith, who we'd poached from the Jets, kept getting torched in Super Bowl 31 against the Packers. I could be remembering wrong, but if I recall correctly, both Long Bomb TouchDowns ~ 81 and 54 Yards ~ were off him.

5 extremely long years later ~ half a lifetime in FootBall Years ~ after Parcel's Betrayal, the entire Pete Carroll Era, the arrival of Bill Belichick and the miraculous run that landed us in Super Bowl 36...Here we are, playing the high-flying Greatest Show On Turf, once again exactly 14 Point Underdogs, like in 1996, and once again, we've poached Otis Smith from the Jets ~ the same Otis Smith who got torched multiple times by a good but not great Offense five Years ago, and who was now 36, going against a legendary Offense!!! ~ and he played phenomenally well ~ like he was 24.

But, yeah: This Chung business is every bit as bizarre.

He is really the safety that makes that D work. I have nothing but love for McCourty, who I feel erases a lot of mistakes, and Harmon, who always has the game clinching INT and is generally making good plays throughout the game. But Chung is the Swiss Army Knife safety on the team. He just does it all.

I will never forget how bad this forum wanted this guy to not make the roster during the 2014 training camp.

Chung for Cassel : much maligned at the time, yet a steal in retrospect.

I was just thinking earlier today that if our pick from SF for Jimmy turns into a player as productive as Chung, then we will have done very well with the trade.

Called it Also, I think a bad shoulder was a main reason for his poor play before he left. Hard to hit with a bad shoulder.

His toughness, durability just add to his great value.
He takes/makes some of the hardest hits considering his relatively small body, plays close to 100% of all D snaps + ST, gets banged up every other game yet stays always available.

He limped off the field last Monday night causing a scare here, yet he didn't even appear on injury report.

800.000 on new incentives very well spent..

Definitely a big fan of Chung's. He really can do it all. Seems like he has gotten better with his man-to-man coverage too. I hope he can help groom the potential safeties of the future like maybe Travis or Jones on the practice squad.
