no surprise...espn is leading the charge. saw on twitter that lebatard thinks gronk should be for 5 games. stephen a smith says 3 games.

gronk is definitely going down for at least 2 games. which means he misses the big steelers game.
so absurd but we all know goodell hates us. curious to see what robert kraft does ( nothing )

BS! Cry me a river!

You won't, because that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with whether or why Gronkowski was suspended. He had no right to hit White like that regardless of what White did to him or what the Refs did or did not call. It feels emotionally like it should be a balancing factor but it absolutely is not. There is no mitigation here. Gronkowski hit a player seconds after the whistle while he was down and defenseless, and in the process made contact with the head and put that player in concussion protocol. The league will come down hard on him for this and they will be 100% right to do so.

sort of

he will use this as basis for his appeal, to establish state of mind and intent, which makes sense

the non-call(s) factor into his state of mind, and if there is an appeal, it IS relevant, because it speaks to intent

there is no justification....he was wrong......but his people will use the history of non-calls to establish intent and distance this from multiple other infractions

so yeah, it does have something to do with it

There is no excuse for Gronk.,...I dont care if he was being mugged all the way down the field...Holding can be called on every play. He has to be better than that.

I didn’t think he would get a suspension but I changed my mind after seeing it forty times, he deserves a week and hopefully not two. But what he did was wrong. I feel bad for him because I dont think he is that type of guy and he let his emotions get the better of him, everyone has it happen to them.

Im not worried about the next game with Buffalo, the refs and coaches will be watching that closely and the buffalo players talking about it are already getting the attention of the NFL, pretty stupid to say it out loud.

Anyway Im disapointed in Gronk, he is getting a suspension it will just depend on how long, 1-3 games probably. The guys on the networks think 3.

Off course cause they're pats haters! If he gets suspended more than 1 game i am losing my **** if i am kraft. Off course he might kiss goodell's fanny!

I'm calling for this for Gronk because if someone targeted Butler or one of our linebackers like this, I'd sure as heck want that level of punishment.

Let's say Antonio Brown flips out at Butler because he made a pick and there was a little contact before the interception with no flags thrown, and Butler's on the ground and he does a WWE tackle on him like Gronk did to White. Do you think nearly every homer on this forum wouldn't be out for blood? Because I know they would be. I know I would be too

What Gronk did would be considered absolutely inexcusable on this forum if he weren't our guy. So I'm just applying that same standard to OUR guys.
If they applied the same standard to OUR guys, there would be a fine, or at most, a one game suspension. If Gronk gets more (which you, a few other posters on here, and all the crazy mediots who hate the Pats and love a good controversy that they can beat to death over multiple weeks, are advocating for) then the same standards will NOT have been applied to OUR guys.

You're right... it has a little to do with it, but I think it's pretty much a red herring, all it proves is that the hit was not so much malicious as just undisciplined and emotional... I don't think that reduces the penalty by much if at all

if it had been deliberate targeting of the head I'd pretty much be calling for Gronkowski's season to be over, Patriot or no Patriot there's no room in the league for a player who did that on purpose with malice aforethought, hell with league punishments, someone who did that maliciously should probably be facing criminal charges... so I was sort of already giving him the lenience of assuming that it was a stupid spur of the moment thing when I put in my original guess of 3 games.

Evans got two games and Gronks deal is worse imho, guy was lying on the ground face down and Gronk deliberately used his forearm. I think it is worse than Evans so I thinking 2-3 games, reduced to 1 or 2. Just be prepared. There were other violations yesterday but none of them are getting the press this one is...it will matter.

No.

Depends on when the appeal is heard.

I already posted my prediction: two game suspension. Gronk appeals. Appeal is heard, allowing Gronk to play against Miami. Results of appeal are announced after Miami game. They are a reduction of suspension to one game. Thus Gronk misses Steelers game.

Maybe, but that would look too much like the league is orchestrating for the Steelers (which they would be).

A rational and fair commish would suspend Gronk for the Bills game.
1) Compensation directly to the Bills who were the ones damaged.
2) Helps keep retaliation off the board. Player safety.

I say this as a complete hypocrite, being emotional in the heat of the moment myself.

Years ago approaching 50 I'm playing pickup hoops on the Cape. Got stuck at forward where I was physically outmatched by a 20 years younger 40+ LBS heavier, 5 inches taller opponent. But I do play stout defense and could take a hit. Guy kept running into me, elbowing me, etc. and then had the effrontery to call ME on a foul when his shot missed. Threatened to beat the you know what out of me after the game because I would not let him score at will. I took this threat seriously.
So, later on we're all fast breaking down the court. Without forethought I cross body block him full speed at mid court tossing him "out of the club" across the sand into a pine tree. Lying there dazed, his buddies all run over to him, I point and shout, "Now that! THAT's a foul!"
Sprinted to my car and drove outta there before I was a dead man. Stayed away from that court the rest of the week.

You're a man of honor. Self imposed a one week suspension on yourself. That's integrity.

I disagree, what Gronk did was not a football play. He didn't just finish a play hard with some extra anger. White was out of bounds and by football standards the play was long since over. He had to go out of his way to hit White in the first place then body slammed a defenseless player into concussion protocol. That moves it into a different category in my mind to a standard dirty hit.

It may not have been malice aforethought but there was some targeting involved.. league has to send a message here, that can't be tolerated. If they got it wrong on other players so be it, they still shouldn't let this go. You don't want to set a precedent where this stuff is OK just because a guy is frustrated with the refs or that WILL bite us in the ass later.

Not that it makes the hit any better but he didn't use his forearm.

I hope our guys use it as motivation if he gets suspended more than 1 game. It would suck losing gronk in one of the biggest games of the year against the squealers. You would know it's a setup by the nfl.

and that's ludicrous

watch the alonso hit......that got 9k fine

if you want to up the ante because it was after the play, then use the Evans precedent and go one game......but be prepared for an appeal, and don't be surprised if it is appealed down to just a fine based on what i've said around intent.......of course intent and remorse factor into the punishment phase

Fair enough but how about having the punishment fit the crime? The league went over the top with punishment for us with two faux scandals already in Goodell's tenure. A 1 game suspension and a fine seems proportional.

I love Gronk but unless you are a total homer, incapable of objectivity, you have to agree that a suspension is warranted. 1 game and a $100,000 fine is what I’d impose. BUT I also would have suspended Alonso, and would have suspended both Talib and Crabtree for 3 each so who knows. Being the Pats, probably 5 games and a million dollar fine. I’m pissed that Gronk put the team in this spot. Just dumb.

Not that it makes the hit any better but he didn't use his forearm.

evans ran across the field, buried a guy in the back, knocked him from feet to ground and jumped on top and threw punches.....and it was in clear retaliation

if gronk wasn't 270 we don't even have this discussion, because if he was amendola the injury would have never occurred and we'd all be laughing about the 15 yarder and nothing more

if amendola, however, did what evans did, we'd expect the same punishment.....

Yeh sure looks like it to me but regardless the guy got up with a bloody nose, has a concussion....2-3 games, to me its worse than a Suh stomp...looked like WWE

I am sorry but no way. I think it's one game and a fine. We will see it. At least gronk felt bad about it after the game. I think he snapped because of the way he's treated by the refs.

it looked like football the way it used to be, not that long ago.....

There is a big push by the media to punish Gronk with a suspension, as if you couldn't find similar incidents in every game played.
So I am hope for a fine, but expect a suspension. And since it is to Pats and losing Gronk will effect the Pats playoffs I suspect it will be 2 games. Two games after the appeal that is, so maybe 3 before the appeal!
The league needs a new champ and they really would like the ego bound Squealers to rule the AFC.
