Jameis Winston accused of sexual assault by Uber driver

I see this thread has, right on schedule, devolved into a "women are liars who want money" circlejerk.

Can you please point to ONE single post that supports this comment you just stated? Who is saying that women are liars who want money?

Did you even read what was posted?

My daughter worked as a staffer in three offices, in the House and the Senate. Fairly early in her career, she was sexually harassed by a senior staffer. He set up a group tour of a federal building, invited her, and then miraculously she was the only one who showed up.

She said nothing, out of fear for her career (which undoubtedly have ended shortly after if she'd reported it). Years later, now that others are coming out, and she's no longer employed there, she's gathering her courage. She's probably going to speak with a NYT reporter in the coming weeks to add her voice to this great unveiling.

There were many times, she said, where Representatives and Senators said completely inappropriate, sexually loaded things to her, because they could. (She also notes that, in her direct experience, the more outspoken one of these guys is about morality and "family values", the more likely they are to be creeps.)

She is aware of at least 20 elected officials and very senior staffers who have committed clear acts of harassment, and many of assault. They get known by the young female staff and they try to avoid them, but usually couldn't.

If she knows of 20+, how many are there? How many more women have been sitting on this stuff out of shame or fear?

Thats awesome that your daughter has the courage to speak out and bring attention to these types of appalling actions by creeper men... and that is one huge positive I hope will come from the #metoo movement is that there won't be such a stigma or fear of coming out as this type of behavior is exposed more and more... its terrible that women have had to suffer this type of harrassment, its terrible for anyone to suffer through that.. and i truly hope through the court systems she nails every single one of those little pieces of **** to a cross to rot in the sun

and you're absolutely right... im sure there was an incredible amount of fear of retaliation on many different levels for the women that dared come out with these types of accusations.. its disgusting that these types of men take advantage of their perceived power and exploit human beings like that, they should be buried underneath the prison and have the plumbing go through their grave site daily

So quick update based on some stuff i just heard on NFL Network (not that anyone cares)

but Jameis Winston's official statement to these accusations is pretty ****ing sketch lol

"I think the uber drive was confused as to how many people were in the car and who was sitting next to her"

If that doesn't have FALL GUY written all over it... haha

You know what i change my mind. She's not even looking for money. Just putting it out there and winston looks like a creep. She reported it to Uber as well and i believe she texted her friend during the time it happen. Could they still get that information on her phone?

No. Due to another thread discussion it was revealed that Providers do not keep content of text messages (they keep the metadata, time sent, sender name, but not the content). So unless she still has the same phone that has not been overwritten with a sync(Iphone) or similar, or she did a backup of the phone that contained the text message and the backup still exists, the content of the text message is gone forever.

Maybe if they're immature and not too bright, like him.

I'm not so sure Tune. About 7 or 8 years ago I sat next to an ESPN reporter (female) on a flight. First class, plenty of wine, we chatted for a long time (she was super!! cool). I asked her about dating athletes (no kidding, she said she likes the Peyton Manning type -- not Brady). She said for her, in general, there is little chance she would date athletes based on her experience. Her words in general were they have wayyyyy too many options and they know it/act like it. She told me about how her girlfriends would ask her to introduce them to various athletes. She said she would tell her girlfriends upfront that they will be Saturday night speed dial #10. She said most didn't care if they were number 15.

It isn't so hard to believe is it? Humans + sexuality + idolization makes many people susceptible to sexual attraction for reasons other than "he or she is a good person and will treat me well". I suspect many of us are guilty of "sexual attraction" that wasn't based on the object of that attraction being a good and decent person, no?

While I know nothing of this specific case and, therefore, cast no judgment in regards to it:

  1. Statistically, somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of all rape claims are false, according to an FBI study
  2. What constitutes real harassment, sexual or otherwise, and what people claim constitute it, are often quite different, even with the ridiculously broad definitions of harassment used today.
  3. Many women are, in fact, liars who want money (or something else), as anyone who's ever spent a day in family court could tell you.

Divorce/Family court is definitely one of the most dishonest places that exist. Outright lying from both sides is as frequent as Cleveland losses and thick as a Jets fan's head.

Another good point is about what constitutes harassment. A "sexually inappropriate" comment is very subjective. However, in this case the Uber driver is claiming she was "groped". There isn't much gray area in that type of claim. Either it did happen/she's being honest, it didn't happen/she is lying, or the third and least likely option is she is mistaken about who "groped" her.

What your daughter reports doesn't surprise me. I worked for the federal judiciary and our building was located on Capital Hill. I would take lunch time walks and when going by the Senate office buildings, I would see dozens of pretty young women, not the type who typically work in the federal civil service. While some argument can be made for the hiring of attractive females for public relations, I think the ongoing beauty pageant was more likely evidence of the frat boy mentality of a number of politicians and senior staffers.

Thats awesome that your daughter has the courage to speak out and hopefully bring attention, and more importantly justice, to those who committed those horrible acts

I have conversations with my wife about this kind of stuff, she's been victimized in her past and I know how real this EPIDEMIC is. We have open dialogue and discussion about it, which helps both of us become more educated on the topic from different perspectives...

I think its safe to say that we all (or at least most of us) think that sexually assaulting women is absolutely appalling... but i don't think its fair or does the conversation any favors when people immediately jump all over anyone who doesn't just completely attack the accused, or has legitimate questions about the incident to better understand what happened to form their opinion, before they're labeled as "men who hate/blame/etc female victims of sexual abuse"

Its great that this topic is being discussed and that so many women are coming out to share their stories. Many victims of sexual abuse are afraid to come out as you stated, and hopefully this movement will give them the confidence and support that they need to come forward. Its those brave women who were victims of sexual assault that can bring the proper attention to this, and hopefully change the culture to where people feel safe reporting this type of disgusting crime

If you're looking for a paycheck at the end of the day, forgive me for asking 1 or 2 questions along the way to better understand the situation

I’ve been groped and I miss those days. And I’m serious...I’ve had women I had no interest in grab me without my permission

I wish some of them were famous today....

Could you cite that post, please?

Winston isn't all athletes. My only point was that Winston himself is stupid/immature which likely limits his options, not that there aren't plenty of stupid/immature women who would go for him for his money and athletic prowess.

Yeah, "decorating your office" can mean something quite different there. That's more the case on the Senate side; the House retains a bit more of a "regular people" feel to it. "Office porn"is another term I've heard, which indicates the thin line between objectification and impulsive behavior.

He's also a sexual predator.

There should be records of this. When you reserve an uber for multiple passengers, you indicate how many people there are.

Women love famous guys. There is a YouTube video (linked below) about a regular looking regular guy who pretends to be a celebrity. He arranged for some fake bodyguards and fake paparazzi in the middle of Times Square.

The people who saw all this starting going crazy, especially the women. They got all whipped up into the frenzy, which was seemingly building exponentially. The women were fawning over this complete nobody because they thought he was famous.

Are you sure about that? I've heard differently....

Statistically, somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of all rape claims are false, according to an FBI study

Whoa...that's not the percentage proven false, it's the percentage where authorities decided that there wasn't enough evidence to proceed with the case! (That includes cases where too much time has passed to collect evidence, cases where an accuser doesn't want to testify, cases where the authorities assume nobody will believe a woman because of how she was dressed that night, etc. etc.)

The proven false rate comes in around 5%-6% in most studies:

The Prevalence of False Allegations of Rape in the United States from 2006-2010
https://atixa.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Lisak-False-Allegations-16-VAW-1318-2010.pdf

That's still significantly higher than for other crimes, but to state that nearly half of rape claims are false is wrong and dangerous.
