Patriots Player Departure Jimmy Garoppolo traded to SF for 2018 2nd round draft pick

After watching him a few times since he's left I do not want him as our long term backup. For eight games, I would be fine with that. Would rather see Kap. But given that the coach and owner are TrumpsKKKi fans, probably not going to happen

Kap would suck in this system. That's why he wouldn't end up here despite your political bs ranting that no one gives a **** about.

Is Brady basically guaranteed of staying until his contract runs out?

Disagree. Bledsoe vs the Steelers was a bigger win.
Bledsoe played 1+ games in the Regular Season and 1 game in the post season. So, he played more than 1+ games. If you had argued that never before had a backup played a more important role in the playoffs for the Patriots, I'd have agreed with you.

A few thoughts:

In training camp:
1) They didn't believe Brissett would be an adequate backup (Jacoby hasn't been great, but I think the Patriots were wrong on this one).
2) Garoppolo didn't take the next step in training camp to consider replacing Brady with him. (I think they were right).

On the trade:
1) This team doesn't trade "for the future". They likely have designs on trading that pick.

On the new backup:
1) Kaepernick doesn't fit the Patriots scheme, but McDaniels drafted Tebow. He pushed to sign Tebow. If McDaniels thinks Kaepernick could be an adequate starter, it would not be surprising if the Patriots chose him over Hoyer (I'm saying "if". The fact that Hoyer was reportedly originally in the deal, I don't think they like Kaepernick more than Hoyer).

Who else would have traded for Garoppolo?
1) SF
2) Cle -- maybe, but who can say what Cleveland would do?
3) Jets - not going to trade him there
Others are long shots:
4) Saints - if Brees leaves
5) Redskins - if Cousins leaves
6) Cardinals - if Palmer retires.
EDIT -
7) Jacksonville - Are they ready to move on this year?

Just don't see the trade market is especially rich.

JG will have a good coach with Shanahan but it’s gonna take an act of god for the 49ers to become a competitive team this season and next season.

This is the NFL superplan,
trade away any sense of future QB twice, tick
take a 5th round rated saftey in the 2nd
sign Kap, to piss of the Patriots fans so they dont go to games.
Team crisis
finish 6-11

Aaaarrrgghhh!

Absolutely fuming, would rather let him go in off season for nothing

I appreciate your pessimism but when did the NFL expand to a 17 game season? LOL

Pats will probably sign Hoyer to be their backup. From all reports he would have been included in the JG trade but that would have cost us a comp pick for some reason. 49ers released him instead so we will probably look to sign him for vet minimum.

Butler & a 2nd round pick? Are we getting friggin Aaron Donald back?

If we trade Butler and the 49er’s 2nd, I guarantee you we won’t get equal value. It’ll be something silly like Ziggy Ansah.

Someone mentioned Carlos Dunlap in the trade thread. Perfect because of the money he's making this year and the following year.
