It always made me scratch my head how guys like Dwayne Allen can do so well in a place like Indy yet come here and we can't even get him a completion in a game.

I agree. It's puzzling to me, also. To not have a single reception through 6 games is astounding to me. I think he just sucks. Although, I fully admit I'm incapable of being fair and objective when it comes to ex-Colts.

Once Dorsett and Allen kick in game over especially Dorsett, I can see it now, Cooks and Dorsett running the seam, Amendola running the slot, Hogan in the middle and Gronk getting double teamed so many options especially with our backs we will repeat

I can't recall a Pats player in the Belichick era ever being invisible for his first six games and then turning into a solid contributor. The only three examples (of players really turning the corner) I can think of off the top of my head are Wilfork's rough, inconsistent first few years before becoming a Hall of Fame player, Logan Ryan finally turning into solid CB in his final year here and the biggest jump I have ever seen in a player with James White's leap from 2015 to 2016. Those are completely different scenarios though. I would compare this more to the Chad Johnson signing, except far more costly. The truth is, and some people don't want to hear this because in their mind Bil is a god, perfect, but he took a big homerun cut and whiffed badly at the TE position in the offseason. He has been obsessed with the position since he got here and more often than not, him TE evaluations don't work out particuarly well. He should have aggressively pursued Bennett after it became clear to he and his agent that the market wasn't going to be what they thought it was. I bet he would have come back for what they paid Allen. And They wouldn't have had to throw away a valuable pick. But Bill has a short sighted take it or leave it approach to negotiating. Hard headed, prideful and arrogant.

His decisions at TE and RB were terrible this offseason. He is one of the best of all time, but he's not perfect.

Um, our backs are JAGS. The possible exceptions are Lewis and White who are 3rd down backs and redundant. Our lead back is in Philly and averaging 5.6 yards a carry because Bill decided it would be a good idea to give his money to Rex Burkhead. And then double down by doing the same with Gillislee- another JAG. If Bill resigns Blount I firmly believe we win that KC game in week one and the tone of the season is completely different. Maybe even undefeated right now considering we had the Carolins game stolen from us.

Since 2009, the Pats have, on average, ranked 14th in rushing yards and 5th in rushing TDs - mostly with JAGs at RB.

They currently rank 19th in rushing yards and 4th in rushing TDs.

It's probably worth remembering that the Pats traded "promising" and speedy RB Jeff Demps PLUS a 7th rounder to Tampa for a 26-year-old, former UDFA LeGarrette Blount during the 2013 draft. At the time, Blount was a noted fumbler who had lost his starting job in Tampa and whose 2012 stat line had been reduced to 151 yards on 41 carries.

Most fans considered that to be a WTF? trade of a valuable developmental candidate for a JAG, and, indeed, Blount produced only 26 yards on 11 carries (2.36 ypa) in his first two games with the Pats.

So, in 2017 the Pats have essentially replaced the now 31-year-old "RB god" Blount with two 27-year-old RBs who are "JAGS" and BB is, again, an idiot.

Allen had a great 2012 rookie season in Indy with 521 yards, 3 receiving TDs and a 68% catch rate on 66 targets.

After spending 2013 on IR (hip), he bounced back in 2014 with 395 yards and 8 receiving TDs, but only a 58% catch rate on 50 targets.

Allen's 2015 season was fairly mediocre with 109 yards, 1 TD and a 55% catch rate on just 29 targets.

Last season, he bounced back again with 406 yards, 6 TDs and a 67% catch rate on 52 targets.

I hope we aren't placing blame on Brady now as the reason Allen has been a disappointment so far. The guy runs wrong routes and can't track the ball.

Lol no he’s not. Allen is what he is. His first responsibility will be to block. The guy hasn’t recorded a single reception in six games. He’ll be an expensive blocking TE and I suspect the team will look to part ways with him in the offseason.

Kind of my assessment as well. I think my hope for him this season is that he continues to block well to provide value there, and makes a few catches in the playoffs (hopefully at opportune times) when the defense has completely gameplanned around him not being in the passing game.

You guys can't deny the production he had in Indy though. It may take him longer to get in sync with the offense than we'd like but if he gets to that point we'd have a monster 2 TE offense

That offense was sorely lacking an underneath/intermediate option in the passing game and there was room for more production for Allen. I don't think the team is counting on him to be impactful at all in the passing game as a TE2. I think that if anyone is going to play that role, it will have to be Hollister. I'd love to be wrong, though.

Belichick definitely shouldn't have picked up veteran RB's who were going to be injured.

How about Kevin Faulk's fumbling problems?

Or an even more applicable example - Jermaine Wiggins - he wasn't consistent to start the season but had some clutch catches in the Super Bowl run.

That said, we don't see practices - only games and to me that's where the bulk of the coaches decisions are likely made about players.

How do you know he ran the wrong route??

Just simple deduction of what's more likely. A 20 veteran Qb running a system he's always known throwing bad ball or new Te running the wrong route. Then it's to the coaches decision to only play 6 snaps, if it was the Qbs error then that Te would be playing more. I also think he can't track the ball well either. I'm not hating on him, it's just reasoning after 6 games, really there is nothing better than to have another weapon and it'll help us if he starts figuring out our system.

Note. Brady does throw bad balls but those receivers don't get benched.
