Not getting in the middle of the Talib debate because there are points for both sides, but his cap hit is 12m dollars this year.

His average annual value on the contract was approx. 10m a year.

Haha how people forget. Talib was elite elite in 2013, remember what he did to Julio Jones and Jimmy Graham? since he lefts he's arguably gotten even better, he's a superstar.

With hindsight I disagree here. I cant find the Reiss piece anymore because it was in one of his Sunday bits and pieces things but he mentioned that the team had health related concerns with Woodhead which is why they never upped the offer to keep him around. Yes, he would have been great to have in 2013 but after that he got dinged up or severely injured almost every season.

Talib was arguably better than Revis in 2014. Talib was so good in 2013 for New England that he single handily won us the Atlanta game, and made the pro bowl...some were calling him the best corner in the NFL. He shutdown teams number 1 WRs every week except for Josh Gordon.

He broke up the final play and got an INT on a one footed Julio Jones who 2 weeks later went on season ending IR. But as usual the superlatives are flowing.

I especially liked how he "shutdown" Steve Smith in 2013 to the point where Talib also said "Ice Up Son" afterwards to him. Or was it the other way around ?

It's an inside joke for people who have been on this board since 2008 or earlier. I wasn't taking a shot at you. Back in 2008 when Seward was a free agent, there was a thread that literally when 50 pages on him. It became a long running joke on this board.

12 million next year, 8 the year after, but with minimal cap hits.

At the time, it was a high contract, but Denver smartly structured it and took a chance on talent.

While I agree that Talib is a top-3 CB, a big part of the reason is Denver's front 7. QBs get full seconds more to deliver the ball against NE than they do against Denver.

Swap Talib and Gilmore, and Gilmore is top-3, too.

I thought of Talib as well. He definitely would have locked down a corner spot with consistency over these yrs. Him coupled with Butler and we're possibly not having this conversation about Gilmore.

Denver didn't pay him off, they paid Welker to take him out
